I wasn't aware that polling places had already opened, gives new meaning to the phrase - 'vote early, vote often' Bill you're right, I guess ST showed that there are polling places in Washington - just not on the island that my folks live on, they have to vote 'absentee' or spend the money for the ferry to get to a 'real' polling place. So how many people rifle mailboxes in hopes of finding ballots? I expect to walk up the road to the local township center and vote tomorrow, doubt there will be any line. I like going to the polling place. It's about 1 1/2 blocks from where I live. I have a lot of friends who live in the NW, and it's true - all of Oregon, and all but 1 or 2 counties in Washington only have "vote by mail", with no polling place option. I think my buddy Earl was telling me that in Washington, they are trying to move it to be 100% like Oregon before 2010. I'd miss the poll, the smell of coffee, the little old ladies at the counter, and the kids eating lunch as I march past them in the cafeteria on my way to the gym. And the tater-tots smell like I remember them...

I'm sorry, but I'm just not really fond of getting more and more people to vote. The population is getting dumber and dumber. The thought that my fate is in more and more dumber and dumber people -- convinced that they are none-the-less smart enough to vote, even though they can't identify any of the candidates from their pictures. Get out the stupid vote!!!! yeah. That's what we need. I'm with you in theory, John. I'm just not sure that a supressed vote is necessarily a smarter one. Tim
