No, no, no -- I am not trying to justify anything.
What I have learned from this thread is that there are a WHOLE lot of businesses, private residences, and even TV stores that have their wide-screeners set up poorly, and I had just seen so many squashed images that I assumed they all were that way when not getting something broadcast in HD.
I know I seem like a Luddite, but I like technology.
I mean, was I not one of the first CA owners here?

Sounded to me like you were debating against the technology.
Well I certainly agree about the distorted images when you try to force the standard def image into the high def aspect ratio. When I purchased my 42" plasma I tried really hard to watch TV in that format and I just couldn't do it. Fortunately most of the networks have switched to HD broadcasts. What I really like are some the HD only networks.
I also hate it when a sporting event goes to a replay or a highlight that isn't HD and it looks like crap until they get back to their live HD feed. CBS is infamous for this.

I was debating against it cuz I thought it didn't work, cuz I saw so many sets that looked like crap and no one seemed to be bothered by it, including all the sports fans at the local watering hole.
