I'm liking this more and more. They've done what Mr. Millring suggested, put the links to new/changed stuff on the main page. They also post links to new videos, and there is some really, really fine playing. I really like this one, nice bit of slide playing. I like the wind on the mic, too, LOL. acousticguitarclub.ning.com/video/madelein-1

They are over 2000 members now.
I like it, but somehow it seems a bit "diffuse"...when you come here, you know at a glance where the action is. There? Well, maybe there just isn't any action yet.

It's a different kind of site, though. This is pretty converstational, the AG site actually about, well, guitars and playing....

I'm there, but it doesn't seem to work as well as the old site for me. The big icons only showing the last 3 discussions on any board on one screen is annoying. The videos are a neat concept. But I have plenty of opportunities to see Gil already. I noted there are 111 songwriters and 250 finger-pluckers. it was 80 to 220 when I signed on. For a while there I thought the songwriters were making a run for it, but the last couple weeks, 20 fingerpickers came out of the woodwork, and the margin is pretty much the same.

The forum discussions are a little... less than what I'm used to on the other AG site. Like this discussion: acousticguitarclub.ning.com/forum/topics/strings-gaugeJust a lot different. I'm happy to go there for videos and recordings, but I'll stay over at AG until they kill it. I might, however, start up my own blog once I start working on my Gower refurb/rehab. And if anyone wants to "friend" me, I'm John B.

And if anyone wants to "friend" me, I'm John B. Gosh John B......can I be your friend? Actually, I signed on there too.....one of the new fingerpickers. Looks like it could be OK. Like has been said - for the videos, etc. Not necessarily Gil's..... I'm sure I'll use it some.....it's a resource.

I'm really enjoying the music, mostly. I'm about geared out. I always liked 'Playing' and 'Players' the most. With the new site, I'm finding lots of great people that I wouldn't have found otherwise, who are just sharing their stuff.

I've been wondering how they marketed this new site. And I only say this because it seems to be full of people using the "friends" and "groups" as a means of selling products. That kind of activity was always immediately shut down on the old forum. There it seems to be the rule.

Experimenting with a new model, maybe, John, though I'm not quite sure how the mag makes money. They have their new 'club', too, that you pay to join - don't know how that's working out.

Naw, I don't mind Acoustic Guitar Magazine promoting themselves -- their magazine, their site, their cruises, anything else they wanna use their mailing list for.
I was thinking more of the guys...
...like the one guy who joins every group in order to ask everyone if they've tried his partial Kyser capos.

I busted on him a few days ago...he posted his "capos from heaven" bit both to the Songwriter's group, as well as to each discussion thread inside of the songwriter's group. He seems like a nice enough guy, but pretty much in the dark when it comes to the protocol of such matters.

Yes, it's a fine line around what's permissible, and polite, isn't it? He seems okay - but where do you draw the line?

It's not Randal Cunnigham, is it ? He seems to be making a nice go of it in the music biz by traveling around the country (on Kyser's ticket) giving partial capo workshops and also plugging his own music and shows.

Wasn't he the former F-4 fighter jock who disgraced himself by taking bribes as a California congressman?

Randal Cunningham? Actually, his name is listed as "Greg O'Haver" on his profile. He doesn't seem like a bad guy. After I (very gently, mind you) busted him on spamming the board, he wrote a very gracious note back to me. Its all good.

As an aside, that same guy was at the NAMM show... he came to the acoustic cafe and hit up the table that we were sitting at; we in this case being myself, Doug Young, Teja Gerken and Gary Joyner. Fortunately, nobody knows me from Adam, but poor Teja was trying to watch Laurence Juber or whoever, and he ends up having to fondle a 6-pack of capos in assorted colors and lengths... I don't think he's at all a bad guy, btw, just fairly zealous.
