Up and awake.
We had a good time at the halloween party we went to last night. If I could find our camera this morning, I'd post a picture.
Hope this finds you all well.

Speaking of cameras, we're headed out in a bit for Starved Rock. We were there a couple weeks ago when the trees were first starting to turn colors. This one is overlooking the Illinois River: I'm guessing that we missed peak color season. The trees are probably bare now. But I have the new camera, and it wants to go for a trip. And even if the trees are dead, there are still interesting rock formations down there:

Good Morning Good People
Cloudy, wet and windy. Wind and rain took down most of the leaves yesterday so we are looking at bare branches against the sky.
Celebrated Ana's 18th birthday last night with her maternal grandparents, boyfriend, and brother. Had some wonderful takeout Mexican food and an ice cream cake. Three years ago her brother decided he should smoke a cigar with his dad to mark the occasion; Ana thought she should continue the tradition. What more heartfelt father-daughter activity could there be than shopping for cigars together (the tobacconist was amused) After dinner we sat around the table and consumed said cigars along with Grandpa. Grandma disapproved but she took a puff and we got a photo.
This morning I need several more cups of coffee to remove the cigar aftertaste from my tongue. The rest of the day will be spent at the office, carving pumpkins, and preparing for an onslaught of urchins this evening.
Fingerplucked -- nice pics -- who says Illinois is flat?
Have a melodious Halloween one and all (minor keys, if you please)

Nice pix, FP--very...big! ! The color won't last much longer. My drive to Minnesota last week was beautiful...I thought it was going to be too late to really see any color but there were some wooded areas along the way that were quite spectacular. The colors don't seem as "brilliant" this year but still quite lovely. It's been so windy here the past few days though ... it's obvious that Mother Nature intends to defrock the trees in short order. Yesterday was another round of wedding gown shopping with my daughter, her friend and the groom's mother. Found some great possibilities! It's really been fun these past two outings we've done. As we did last time, we ended the day by going out for a late lunch (my treat of course). Young people really are such fun to be around. My daughter's friend has the BEST laugh! ;D I'm planning an engagement party for a month from now...good reason (excuse...motivation) for doing the decluttering, cleaning and holiday decorating in this next month...I work better under pressure! Hope to make some progress toward that end today. Have a good Halloween Saturday, everyone!

Morning all. Big rainstorm last night, lots of wind. Today, house cleaning, pumpkin carving, friends over for dinner, kids trick or treating. Sounds good.

And a good Boo day to you all. The snow still hasn't left the ground - though they say it will today or tomorrow - it snowed so hard yesterday that my internet satellite was down - too much snow/ice on the receiver/transducer(?).
there's somebody nearby test firing their deer rifle - first ones of the year (this close). Guess I better dig out my safety orange vest for walks in the woods.

Good morning all. Kim and I were going to help with tric or treating at the Annex (nursing home) tonight but it's been cancelled because of all the flu going around. I suggested they postpone instead of cancel, and they all thought that was a good idea. So Halloween, which doesn't occur in the country, will occur later.
Instead, Kim and I are going here tonight. Should be good.
Strong winds have blown the leaves off most of the trees, but it's still pretty out there, and the dry corn fields are still standing.

Looks like a great place, Todd!! Guess you are not TOO far from "civilization"!! ;D
We bought a bag of candy but rarely do we have Trick or Treaters--although for some reason ONE year we had quite a few! We bought Almond Joy because (fortunately/unfortunately) that is MY favorite!! Not many porch lights are on here...condo "neighborhoods" are a somewhat unusual community at times. I think a lot of the snowbirds (for whom this is summer residence) have flown south already to escape this less than stellar fall weather! Most own a second home in warmer climates so they can take off whenever they choose.
We have my daughter and future SIL here for dinner and then they are off to their respective activities. I think there is a rented movie in the future for MrR and me tonight!

+1 for Almond Joy. We used to do the same thing -- buy Almond Joy 'cause it was the one we'd mind least having left over. I just ate 700* mini Almond Joys this very morning.
*slight exaggeration.

Todd, if you can't find something good to eat on that menu, you just aren't hungrey! Indeed. I had the Andouille Rissotto Stuffed Salmon with BBQ Butter. Exquisite. Almost as good as a Maidrite. Strange not having any trick or treaters this year. We could have gone in and gave out from the house in town, but decided to go out and eat instead. I've got a tinge of guilt from that.
