This is just too rich. John Cleese, a guy whose work I have long admired, but whose political opinions I have not, is all of a sudden wondering where his "England and Englishmen" went. How a bright guy like Cleese fails to connect the dots is incredible. It's a hilarious when a liberal vaguely realizes the folly of his life's work, but just can't quite grasp why. I enjoyed his skits on Python as much as the next guy. But he was the ultimate rabble rouser: ridiculing, making scathing criticisms for decades about the English establishment and in particular the Anglican Church, the Catholic Church, any church. The message was loud and clear -- English culture was corrupt & stupid, there was NOTHING special about it. White people's Christianity was for MORONS. But he didn't realize the consequences that would follow when the liberal bureaucrats in government agreed with him. They allowed the Muslim, African & Asian hordes to immigrate by the millions into England because: All Cultures are Equal! Diversity Good! Don't look at that Muslim man at the airport counter! Nothing to See There! (Tories/Republicans, like Sara Palin, evil!) And now, in his 70s, he doesn't like what London has become, mystified why there aren't any "Englishmen" in London anymore. John, in an interview you called Sara Palin an idiot, someone who didn't even understand the words she was saying (a "parrot" is what you called her). But who didn't understand the consequences of their words? You, John. You got what you seemingly wanted, the destruction of white Christian culture in the heart of England. It's what you asked for, begged for, for decades. Who's the dummy John? www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3791303/John-Cleese-London-is-no-longer-English-city.html#mySunComments

another terrific post fatstrat. Start out your sojourn on this forum by insulting the majority of members "he is a liberal - reality need not apply!!!"
You know, many of the people on this forum are conservative. Some are staunchly set in their value set, but I never see them going out of their way to insult the rest of their friends. You've been here less than a week and you seem determined to shove your particular prejudices down everyone's throat and nothing much else.
How was your day? Do you have anything to say that isn't bound to piss most of us off?
I didn't think so.

I refer to my original welcome of FatStrat.
If you're here to discuss music then welcome. If you're here to start political arguments . . . not so much.
Isn't it amazing how one person can stink up the place?
FatStrat, you mentioned that you've tried and left several other guitar forums. May I suggest you continue your search?

Ok, I've been to the guitar section here. The 5th post down is from Nov. of last year. It's pretty obvious not much guitar discussion goes on. As for Political "arguments" and "stinking up the place". You folks are pretty sensitive. I find Liberal opinions pretty stinky myself. But would never consider suggesting you don't have the right to voice them. You support allowing illegal immigrants to enter our country and avail themselves of our taxpayer funded social programs. Which have greatly diminished the funding available for the people they were intended for. And has actually lead to the raising of medical costs and the closing of many medical facilities. Because they deserve the opportunity to live in a free nation. But you would deny me, an American the opportunity to voice my opinions? There's a word for that. Hypocrisy. What I find most interesting is what a bunch of cowards you are. Instead of defending your beliefs, you instantly begin to cry about wanting someone to throw the bully out. It speaks volumes. You know you can't defend them because they are wrong. They've been proven wrong throughout history. We are seeing them proven wrong in Europe. And we are seeing them proven wrong here. And still you cling to them. It's absolutely amazing. www.cnbc.com/id/44548847

Any moderators reading this? I know you guys are pretty hands-off, and I wouldn't think of suggesting that your approach is wrong. But are you able to change a member's status to moderator? I only need 5 minutes. It will be quiet, and it will be permanent. Then I'll turn in my badge, relinquish my power, and go back to being a mere mortal.

'Strat, your behavior so far is not encouraging, but you say you want reasoned conversation (though you frame that in language that sounds like a challenge to combat rather an invitation to discussion). OK, here's my best shot at "engagement": I looked at the Cleese piece in the Sun, and I didn't see anything about "white Christian culture" or "Muslim, African & Asian hordes." I did see garden-variety old-guy nostalgia for the London he knew as a young man which is quite like what I hear from old New Yorkers reminiscing about the days of cheap railroad flats and being able to feed yourself at the Automat for less than a buck. Or my father's nostalgia for the non-starvation parts of the Great Depression. Elevating this to a parable of liberal shortsightedness requires injecting into it an emotional intensity and political viewpoint that is in neither the text nor the video--though your reading certainly matches the tabloid-sensationalist nativist political bent of The Sun. Of course, The Sun isn't the only paper covering the story--and, better yet, we can see the Australian talk-show segment (the relevant bit starts at 3:49): Note also Cleese's comment on "the worst press in the world" at 4:28. Sidenote: Here's an interesting response about the Englishness of London: www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/john-fleming/london-is-no-longer-an-en_b_962852.htmlYou're new enough here that you do not, perhaps, have a sense of whom you're talking to and about. The "Liberal" that you describe doesn't match the farthest-left member of this forum--"people who's moral compass spins like an airplane propeller [and who are] afraid to engage me." Well, my moral compass is steady and carefully calibrated, and the only fear I feel in engaging you is that I might be wasting my time and providing amusement for someone who, like the pig in the saying, enjoys rasslin' in the mud. But if you'd care to climb down, lose the blanket characterizations of people you don't really know, and dial back the insults, you might find real conversation here. I've been having useful and interesting discussions with conservatives for about fifty years, and the only time I've stopped listening has been when I found myself dealing with someone who seemed incapable of listening to me--the actual me and my words, not some cardboard cutout with a label pasted across its face. And if that last bit sounds patronizing, that's because it's aimed at the persona who wrote your posts. If the real guy is different from the virtual one and cares to come out and talk, I'll apologize for coming on all schoolmarmish.

Have I mentioned that I have a very large penis? Seriously.
If you were to see my penis, you would be frozen in an advanced state of fear, admiration and bewilderment for at least 24 hours. The Post Office wants to assign it its own zip code. My penis is visible from space. My penis speaks fluent German. George Lucas used my penis for his inspiration when creating the Death Star. When my car gets a flat tire, I don't bother with the jack. Cosmologists are concerned that a black hole may come too near the Earth and be destroyed by my penis' gravitational field. Milton Berle is impressed. My penis has been listed as a Weapon of Mass Destruction by Hans Blix. Horses turn their heads away. I am listed twice on my own organ donor card.
Truth.

Russell, I really like your above post. I'm actually starting to understand what your saying. My initial comprehension to your posts was generally lost somewhere before I could finish. Your artistic wording was generally the cause. But it's becoming quite attractive to me now.

Because the Sun is part of damned liberal media (that, and they're jealous).
BTW, Jeff's penis is so big I can see it from here. It's been reported to cause crashes down on Castro street.
