I don't know if this is a recording tip or just a playing tip.
Working from the bottom up with a $10 walmart mic and a free program your computer is a recorder. More is better but it needs to be just bring it up and hit the record button zero setup after the first time. I've done it the cheap way and I've done it tapping off my gig mixer.
Just save them by date and if you play more than once a day ad and a or b or c.
Helps you keep track of your playing. (know when you are slacking off ;D ) You never have to listen to them. Helps prevent that recording disease "red light fever". Every thing you play is being recorded so you don't get nervous at recording secessions.
I keep all mine because HD space is cheap. I get between 50-100 of practice recorded. I've been doing it for at least 7 or 8 yrs. At the end of the year I just take all the files and stuff them in dir 2011 or what ever.

I've just started recording some of my practice sessions on a free app for my phone.
It was suggested to me that if you ever feel like you're not progressing you can go back and listen to stuff from several months or a year ago and reassure yourself that it's not just a waste of time. ) -K

With these new age smartphones, HD recording is as good as the recording devices on phones nowadays I use my S5 to record our rehearsals before playing on stage. Anyways what software do you mainly use?
