I feel like I've fallen into a Woody Allen routine--I go out of town for a few days and when I come home, the family has moved and left no forwarding address. I know some of us have been rowing at TTT (that is, wrangling, not powering small watercraft), but I had no idea it was going to end up in divorce court. Or has it? Can someone explain this schism to me? And why there isn't a trail of breadcrumbs or at least a pinned post at TTT directing the unwary or unconscious to the new address? I looked through a bunch of posts before I found the link that led me here. Is it my breath?
If it's too painful to discuss in the open, send me an e-mail--I'd like to know what degree and manner of tact I have to start practicing.
BTW, it was Djangofest Northwest that took me out of town, and it was a pretty intense--seven concerts featuring thirteen bands, plus two workshops in five days. I also introduced pizza-box drumming to the jam sessions, which may or may not constitute a permanent addition to the tradition.

Welcome Russell! I really can't explain the schism, although many have tried. Suffice it to say that many of us bailed out and ran, swam, or hitchhiked to our new abode, which was quickly assembled thanks to Cribbs and quickly populated.
DjangofestNW sounds like a blast, although I am trying to imagine a Paris cafe in 1939, with Django and Stephan Grapelli (sp?) holding court and a crowd of sophisticated Parisian women drumming on pizza boxes.

Russell:
I'm no one's spokesperson, but this site was started because a fair number of folks felt they would like to try a (potentially) more moderated site than TTT, in hopes that would prevent some of the wrangling that took place.
The only topic we've avoided by agreement is to talk much about the past in regards to TTT. There was some initial gnashing of teeth here over whether anyone was specifically uninvited. Of course, that led to some hurt feelings, but I think everyone involved has vowed to move on.
Other than that, we would expect no degree of manner and tact other than that which you have always shown.
If it makes you feel better, many folks have inquired on these pages as to your whereabouts; you have been missed.
Welcome to the neighborhood.

It just kind of happened.
Some folks were weary of all the fighting that had been going on for weeks. They dropped out and started staying in touch through an email group. Cribbs came along and said, "hey, this is cumbersome and I've got the skills and the server space, how about I set you up a temporary board?" Then the folks on that board started worrying about leaving people behind and emailed folks who came to mind. Within about 48 hours, most of TTT was here and the idea of a temporary board became a permanent board, with moderators and some rules (still in the works) to hopefully avoid the problems that drove folks to email in the first place.
There are plenty of breadcrumbs. At one point the URL for this site was even posted on the old TTT.
Nobody is banned. The rules will be as simple as we can get them, but anyone willing to follow them can register and post.
Tim

It's kinda like when the Nazis were bearing down on western Russia and so the Russkies stuck everything on the train and moved the whole stinking mess east of the Urals.
Pretty much like that.
Russ, you gonna be in the Twin Cities this weekend, perchance? I'd buy you a lavish lunch in exchange for some swing-chord tutorials.

Tim Farney has just been appointed as the Administrator's Press Secretary.
Bravo! It would have taken me, like, 20 pages to say what he said in 4 or 5 sentences.
Dat boy got SKILZ!

We started a new forum because billiam hammond had so many posts that no one could possibly ever catch up so we decided to teach him a lesson.
*I*, for example, have posted way more than billiam.
Russell, it's good to see you here.

And oddly enough, upon arriving here at the new place, I no longer find bear suits all that funny. Or bears themselves, for that matter. Go figure.

Thanks for the update(s). I figured it had to be something like that, but one never knows, do one?
Bill--don't know much about my immediate plans. I'm still readjusting to Central Time and don't even have my bag unpacked or the dirty laundry sorted. (That's actual socks and skivvies, not a metaphor or veiled reference or anything.) I suspect you already know everything I know, and in some strange Keltoid tuning to boot. But I'm happy to spread my ignorance around at any opportunity, lunch not required.
Kook--what if I agree to buy a shrubbery? I've got this lunch voucher I could swap. . . .

Is the pizza supposed to be in the box when you drum? ...or do you change pitch (kinda like steel drums) when you remove it by the piece?

Is the pizza supposed to be in the box when you drum? WhenSteve Larrance co-coached our student band at Augusta a while back, he used brushes on a pizza box at rehearsals. At the end-of-the-week showcase he did the same, and at the end of the tune he opened the box and passed out slices. Pepperoni, if I recall correctly.
