So prior to Jane's arrival, it's also reasonable to presume that Tarzan and Cheetah were indulging in beastiality? I'm crushed!

James is dropping hints like leaden farts upon the stage. So pick one up.
CATHERWOOD: You see? I told you. We use to have another one but he vanished mysteriously. (door open) All right, come in out of the cornstarch and dry your mukluks by the fire. (fire/cellophane/door close) Let me introduce myself. I am Nick Danger.
NICK: No, let me introduce myself. I am Nick Danger.
CATHERWOOD: If you're so smart, why don't you pick up your cues faster?
NICK: Are those my cues?
CATHERWOOD: Yes, and they must be dry by now. Why don't you pull them up out of the cellophane before they scorch. (stop cellophane) Heh. All right, sir, may I take your hat and goat? (baa)

There is a related internet 'law' for Stephenson's usual, non-Gilligan's stuff. Poe's Law states: "Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is impossible to create a parody of Fundamentalism that SOMEONE won't mistake for the real thing." rationalwiki.org/wiki/Poe's_Law The Christwire comment threads were and still are sometimes evidence of that. It became a bit of a troubling and depressing deceit after a while to me.

There was an LA talk radio host, Phil Hendrie, who would have on air conversations with himself using various voices The show was done in real time, and unsuspecting listeners would call in and go ballistic arguing with Phil and his characters. It was very painful at times, very much like watching Andy Kaufman and wondering if he was crazy or acting crazy or just a terrible actor.
Ken Kesey said,"Never trust a prankster!"

Which is funny. I've shaken the wonderful Ken Kesey by the hand and would let him babysit my gerbil or even some larger animals anytime.
(I would trust Stephenson similarly, maybe not with my antique soda bottle collection though.)
