Like Mac 'n Fess a lot. Excellent groove.

Been trying to translate Fess to the guitar for 37 years. I saw him dozens of times and even remember a few. Nice, nice job. I also agree about checking out John Mooney.

Thank you, edgreen!
I don't wanna claim having translated Fess to guitar though, I just tried to play some things that I think are typical to his (and Dr Johns) style. I'm really glad that someone who has actually seen him perform likes it.
Maybe you could inform me on another New Orleans (I think) piano player, James Booker. I have a live LP of him somewhere (can't seem to find it right now so I can't tell you what the title is), and it seems to me he's from the same 'school'?

Booker always reminded me of a continuation of Tuts Washington. He could do 'Fess'isms and then turn around a play anything in the world from Chopin to Tin Pan Alley, no matter how high he was. I saw Booker many times at a bar no larger than my living room on an old beat up upright. I saw Roosevelt Sykes there a few times too on the same piano. Those guys could be heard down the block.
