My wife had an attack a few years back. Neither her nor the people in the office or myself had any idea what was going on, other than she was completely disoriented and could not stand. It was terrifying. Got to ER waited for a bit, and they came out and told me she had had an attack of vertigo. Vertigo? Isn't that like, what you feel when you're standing in a high place and you kind feel like you're falling forward? They then tell me that it happens to lots of folks, all the time. The things you never here about. Anyhow, she didn't need any treatment, fortunately, and she was better by day end.
Last couple of years in my old job worked with a lady who could not shake it. She could barely get out of the house, and worked mostly from home. On top of this she was going through a messy divorce. Her life was not good.

"So, now you know which way is up?"
Well, I never said that.
I did learn that it is fairly common and that it hits people in lots of different ways. Some shake it in a matter of moments and for others it takes months or longer.
I thought I was having a stroke when it first hit me.

Welcome back from the nightmare. Can't imagine what it must have been like ... and then thinking you had to wait until the end of May to get help? Yikes.

I thought I was having a stroke when it first hit me. That's what we were freaked out about, too. Glad she recovered - your treatment sounds like something out of a bad horror movie.

The treatment is intense--especially the zero-light goggles part, but it works. I would do it again in a heartbeat if needed. They taught me how to do it at home so, if it comes back, I can at least attempt to take care of it without having to go back to the clinic. I hope I won't have to, of course. Millring, I thought you shaved your head because of the fleas. Now you are saying it was for me??

I remember Edna. You've always had a way with the elderly.

I've had the ear-debris version on and off for years, but I didn't know it could be that severe--mine either clears up on its own or in response to the home version of the exercises. Interesting that they have an industrial-strength version of the protocol, because the room-spinning level of the syndrome (which I've only had a couple times) is quite alarming. Glad to hear that the treatment worked and that you're prepared for relapses. It's instructive how little things (like tiny grains of junk) can disrupt our basic operations.

I really hope it never comes back, but I do know that it could. The doctor said in about 40% of the cases, some form returns. That is why they teach the methods to use at home. I am hoping I will be in the lucky 60%. It is amazing how helpless it can make a person feel.

Whoa! LJ, I'm so sorry to hear of your terrible experience. Glad to have you back though. I hope you've seen the end of that stuff.

Oh, and that bit about did we notice you weren't here? We're like the Eloi here. If someone disappears with no notice, we all politely never speak of it, because chances are good they've been taken by the Morlocks. Better to just not notice and carry on.

I was just trolling for the sympathy vote. I have some shame but not a lot.

We do too notice. I mean, milling noticed you were absent - said something about heading over to your place and "checking out" some of your stuff. Not 'xactly sure what he meant, but have you counted the silverware?
