The root beer that Kelly and I prefer is IBC. Only comes in bottles as far as I know. Dark. Strong flavor. We keep thick mugs in the freezer to use when we pour one of these and yeah, you don't use ice.

Englanders don't have root beer It is very hard to find anyway. As hard to find as the UK's much loved and ubiquitous smoky bacon flavoured potato crisps (translation - chips) are stateside. That is a snack delight that I have always been puzzled to not find over there. You lot would love 'em. We should work out some kind of a trade.

James if Onslow loved them I figured they must be good, this is also the same guy that said Sherry tastes like fairy wee. Then again, you guys like: US, British Food Dist.

Back to root beer. I think I have mentioned before that we made root beer back in the 50s. We had a fridge in the garage to keep it in when it was bottled and ready. I can't compare it to other root beers, I don't remember it except that it was awful nice on a hot summer day. Our root beer production stopped one very hot summer night when about 16 cases or so blew up and we had a river of root beer flowing down our drive. The ants and flies were on that stuff in a heartbeat and until we hosed the garage and drive they had a feast. I've wondered where the two 20 gallon Red Wing crocks that we used went, those things would be worth a small fortune these days.

Sadly Geoffrey Hughes (Onslow) is no longer with us. Nothing, (well hardly anything) to do with Walker's smoky bacon crisps though, so don't be scared off. Tomato ketchup flavour crisps however belong in the same snack sin-bin as prawn cocktail flavour.

I spent a fair bit of my summers off high school time riding around in a semi with my step brother while he made deliveries to Seward. He had some cousins in Moose Pass that made their own root beer and cut a big hole through the perma frost in their back yard with a type of cellar door covering it up. You'd go down a fairly long ladder in to a pit and grab a few bottles. Good stuff.

"Sadly Geoffrey Hughes (Onslow) is no longer with us."
I'm sorry to hear that. I still enjoy the reruns of that program and Onslow is one of the best parts of it.

CAUTION, THREAD DRIFT: Anyone remember Shasta trailers, with their stupid little wings on the back? My family had another brand of travel trailer back then, can't recall the company, but I can recall that before every road trip, we would get a case of SHASTA BLACK CHERRY COLA! Here is what Shasta trailers looked like: Bill, your Shasta trailer picture seems to have vanished, but I do remember those. Kim went on summer vacation in one of those things every year, to California and to Virginia. The thing sat on the farm for years. Elderly neighbors would go on a walk in the mornings, and after a mile would relax in that trailor, enjoy a thermos of coffee, and then walk back home. When we had a big storm in 11, the thing blew away and it was never found.
