New update this morning - and this one is big. That's 'cause you're a big-hearted guy! That sounds great David.....thanks. So far, my doctors have only referred to it as "enlarged".

More good news.....I'm home from the oral surgeon's office. The dental work that I was needing has already been completed. They worked me in early. Can't tell you how much I appreciate the oral surgeon bumping me up and taking me as an emergency, a full 3 weeks ahead of my previously scheduled appointment.....and his sensitivity to the urgency of the matter. (And the main reason I can't tell you is because my mouth is still stuffed with gauze. )

Sounds much better than winning that bazillion dollar lottery the other day!

I'm absolutely astonished at how the timing is going on this. It's been a measly 7 weeks since I first went to Kansas City to Saint Luke's. When I arrived there that day, I didn't even have a clue that I was looking at the possibility of a heart transplant. I knew my heart wasn't right, but a transplant? Yes, it's extreme. But the more I study this thing, it's the best fix for the problem - as the damage I have isn't going to rejuvenate or repair itself. A Ventricle Assist Device like Huttlinger uses would only be a temporary fix. So I've resigned myself to the fact that a transplant it will be, the situation is real and not imaginary. I'm glad that I have felt as good as I have so far, but it is very noticeable that I don't feel RIGHT. And I am growing weary of not feeling right.
The good news is that I am approved for transplant, insurance has approved it - just waiting on a verification letter and number. The dental work needed is done and healing and I have only 10 days left before the oral surgeon faxes the letter saying it is healed and I am infection free. Then I go back to KC for a meeting with the surgeons, plan the next phase of readiness, and have my need status upgraded and I get put on "the list".
Wow.
Merry Christmas! Love you all.

Remember, if they transplant the heart of a liberal, they have to take special steps to control the bleeding! (Thank you Doonesbury.)
Good luck, Don!

Cruising through this week, occupying myself with guitar playing, nail appointment, two basketball games, then off next Saturday to head back to Kansas City for the weekend. Going to take a couple of days just messing around, not sure what all we'll do. Then have an appointment Monday with another one of the transplant cardiologists. There are around 8-9 on the team. This is the meeting that I'm hoping will be definitive on what will happen....where I actually make it on "the list" and begin preparing to do it to it.
Paul Schlimm......are you around this weekend?

Sounds like progress is being made. Scary to think about, but probably not as scary as the alternative.
