Good morning. The crossword has been conquered, coffee is being applied and my eyes are defogging. A busy but interesting week at work awaits. Enjoy your day.

Argh. Katie off to work at camp councilor, off to the redwoods. She won't be home until Friday. Getting paid to camp out under the stars and do science is a pretty good gig. I'm back to work driving summer school special needs kids, and Nita is just back to work. The dachshunds have promised to patrol the yard while we are gone, making sure the squirrels are kept at bay. That is all.

I saw the back to work title and got scared. Then I remembered I am retired. Speaking of retired, I am going to have to get new tires for my car soon. Just a thought. Enjoy every minute of the day.

Back from a short weekend camping trip up nort', then a little bit of picking in the hammock yesterday afternoon. Guess I'm as ready to get back to work as I'll ever be.

Good morning.
Only saw 2 penguins while I was in Antarctica and they were so far away we had to look at them through the telescope of a transit. McMurdo is inland of where the penguins hang out so they don't go into town much. I did harass some seals though, close up. They get annoyed but don't move very fast on ice.
Already hot and humid here but I cleaned the pool so it's ready when I am. I'll probably mow today since I can do that sitting down and we should be getting rain for a few days starting tonight. After melting down yesterday, golf just doesn't sound like much fun with this humidity.

Successfully stormed the Bastille. Was ready for an all out fight over the $8229 bill from the hospital for a PET scan last January for which B/C Anthem paid a generous $24. Waited ten minutes for a customer rep and gave my account #, name and d.o.b. and she said the balance was zero and it had been adjusted on the 10th. We got the bill on Friday. Meanwhile one of the local papers had an in-depth article about the big increase in the number of patients being sued by UVa hospital for payment. 605 lawsuits in June alone.

Glad to hear they paid, Dick -- that seemed pretty bogus. Cool, crisp, fall-like weather for a couple days or more. Just chilly enough to reinforce all the out-of-towners' stereotypes about summer in Minnesota when they drop in for tomorrow's All-Star game at Target Field.

I spent one night in Minneapolis on our cross-country trip in 1999. I think it was July 3 and it was so hot and muggy the windows in the hotel were all steamed up. The next day I got grief from the family as we drove right past the exits for Austin, MN and the Spam Museum. I argued they wouldn't be open on July 4 so it wasn't worth looking for it. Ended up that night in Sturgis when we couldn't find a room in Rapid City.

Geez...hope that is not heading toward Milwaukee! Moving slowly here this morning. It was a strange weekend and now it's all about getting back to "normal". Lar and I had a back to back booking at a bar for our duo to play in Kenosha (about an hour drive for Lar/45 minutes for me) over the weekend. Started at 9:30 p.m. and ended at 1:30...my head didn't hit the pillow til around 3:00 ayem. The days preceding the nights were spent trying to get in a nap in order to have the energy to play that long and that late and then to recover from the night before. The bar gigs are certainly "a young man's game". Phew! Fortunately today is not a day we have our grand-daughter in our care so I can be lazy all day...and I intend to do just that!

Wonderful, cool, fresh day. Perfect working weather. Time for a bargain beer. I bought a case of Schmidt and use to cut the Gooseshit 50/50. The blend is perfect.

Ready to storm the Bastille today! It isn't only Bastille Day, it's also the natal anniversary of one Woodrow Wilson Guthrie. Besides that it was on this day in 1973 that Clarence White was killed by a drunk driver and Phil Everly, in the middle of an Everly Brothers performance, smashed his guitar on the stage floor and walked off. Don finished the show alone and announced that The Everly Brothers had split.
