Happy birthday, Don! I looked for your sailboat when I was out there this week, but didn't know which one was yours. So I spray painted "Is this yours, Don?" on several of them in the hopes that one would be right.

From what we understand, Chesapeake had a birthday on July 20 or 21. We're not sure which. Or if it was either. But he had one. Maybe it was in August. June. We don't really remember. We didn't keep records. We don't care. But he had a birthday, we assume, because that's what people do. They have birthdays. His was unremarkable. Some good shit happened that day. The good shit had nothing to do with Chesapeake's birthday. He just got older. We did other stuff. Village Idiot grilled out in his converted propane tank grill. Tamarack played his hammered dulcimer for a few hours until his wife finally pointed out that his was a "lap" or "mountain" dulcimer, besides which, he was using the wrong kind of hammer. And he was using the "peen" side. Epaul tried methane foliage enhancement on his prize winning lilies. It didn't work. Alan shot stuff in his backyard saying "...and this is how Doug would do it" as he launched another volley into the unsuspecting beer bottles lined up on the neighbor's wall. "Hold my beer", he was heard to have said. LJ took one of his guitars out on the back patio and did did that Jeff-Beck-windmill-guitar-smashing thing against the neighbor's wall until the neighbor asked him what he was doing. He replied, "I'm doing that Jeff Beck windmill guitar smashing thing." His neighbor said, "That wasn't Jeff Beck. That was Pete Townsend. " "Oh", LJ replied, and went back indoors a little embarrassed. Bill Hammond slept. That's what he does. Sleeps. And Lonnie and Marshall had for weeks been planning on meeting somewhere geographically equidistant to each other and recording some music. They chose Billings, Montana. Well, Lonnie did. Marshall showed up in Naperville, Illinois. He explained that Naperville was not just a more economical choice for him, it was also the environmentally conscientious thing to do -- having burned so many fewer hydrocarbons. "I don't understand why Lonnie doesn't care about the environment.", he said. Marty spent the entire day at the metal detector repair shop, getting his equipment re-calibrated after having spent the better part of the weekend digging up wooden nickels. Mike Wonder had a tide machine installed in his backyard pool and can be found hanging out and hanging nine in the back yard. He still misses the little toe he lost to a coffee table one dark inebriated night. "But who's counting?" he said. I went to an art fair.
Other than that, we've all thought of little else other than Chesapeake turning yet one more year older.
*yawn*

Well, enjoy the birthday. They only come once a year or something like that. Did Hammond wake up yet?

Happy Birthday. Try not to celebrate too loudly. You might wake up Bill.

Don, you old sea dog! Best wishes on this day—many more happy returns. Here's hoping it's been a great birthday so far.

Word is that he spent the day with his wife and another quarter of the forum's conservative branch (sorry John and Bruce, your invitations must have gotten lost in the mail) in the hinterlands of Virginia.
Plotting insurrection no doubt.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHESTER
On this date, I mean the other date, the right date, in 1861, Lieutenant Colonel Audacious Murphy captured the latrines of Fort McAnnus in a surprise morning attack in the battle of Turdfalls, Virginia. It was the turning point of something.
