What we need is some younger members. We are weighted too heavy on 60+ and our young guys are like Todd's age.
I know that J is the exception.

Seems like the younger folks don't play guitars with soundholes, if they play at all.

Seems like the younger folks don't play guitars with soundholes, if they play at all. Well then we need to start kidnapping younger folks and lock them in a room with guitars with soundholes for 10 yrs.

I dunno. Todd is my daughter's age. That seems mighty young to me. Fiddlerina and I meet lots of young people (pre-teens, teens, 20 somethings) who play guitars, mandolins, fiddles, etc. they're mostly very accomplished and motivated. While we on The 'Hole struggle to come to grips with the societal changes we've all seen, they take all that as their starting point. They don't spend much time worrying about our experiences, they're too busy creating their own. If we actually discussed guitars and music in a way that drew them in, they'd be here. They are anxious to learn but I'm not sure we're anxious to teach. We don't dwell on our common understanding and experience precisely because it's shared already. We understand. If our threads were filled with musical tips they could use or we provided contacts that could help them on their journey, I think they'd put up with the rest of our BS. But we don't really offer that. Greg used to offer some useful instructional information but those threads didn't become the exciting, enlightening discussions they could have been. (Imaginary Latin phrase summing it all up.)

I don't think that the forum needs anything. It's the most active "music" forum that I've ever visited. So it's populated by old fart guitarists. Nothing wrong with that. And it would have to change a lot to draw in young people. You know, people in their 40s.
I do visit a forum that is filled with musical tips and is very friendly to beginners. It has been near death for months.

I'm youngish, 38, and I do try to participate meaningfully, but I'm also absent at stretches due to life demands.

What's wrong with being old? Well, a couple of things, really, but never mind that. I'm much more reconciled to aging than I ever thought I would be. That's a plus, because there's not a damned thing I can do about it.

I'm trying to decide between Cranky Yankee and Old Fart as my latest persona. I like the regional tilt of C.Y., but O.F. probably best describes my general attitude.
