.... and they want their harmonies back!
It's kinda derivative, but The Treetop Flyers make me feel good:

Boy does that sound like the nameless horse.

I like it too. Horse With No Name lyrics, notwithstanding, I never understood why I wasn't supposed to like America.

Dead copy of something I didn't like the first time around.

Love the roundback tone on their Ovations.

I don't want to be labeled as anti-American, but I really thought that was pretty awful. Sort of like someone forging Thomas Kinkade.

I like it too. Horse With No Name lyrics, notwithstanding, I never understood why I wasn't supposed to like America. I have always had a soft spot for their melancholious harmonious musicality. This one falls in that realm nicely. Though I can't understand a single word (other than "Me and you" about 2/3 the way through). . . . , Oh, this isn't America ? ! ? ! Treetop Flyers ? ! ? ! Wow, that's pretty darn close to a straight copy. I bet they started out as an America cover band. I like the video technique. Silly, Simple. Several takes of the band lip-syncing to the tune in various settings. Splice the different takes together on a rotating basis. And cast it in black-and-white so everyone will think it's Art.

(PS - I thought this thread was going to be about a terror plot to steal harmonicas. . . , Dastardly thing to do !)

Ventura Highway was a huge pop hit. I'm not sure why anyone would want to copy it. If the rest of the album sounds like this, I'll pass.

So, they're a tribute band that can't quite bring themselves to cop to it?
America is somewhat after my time, but it took less than three seconds for me to recognize the sound as derivative of something that was all over the musical environment a few decades ago.

And "Treetop Flyer" is a song written by Stephen Stills. These guys can't even come up with an original name.

Yeah. They should call themselves "Ebola," or something.

That would be way too catchy.

I emailed Dewey Bunnell a link to this thread. He's crushed that we don't like his music. He's heard about the Soundhole. Even started to create a profile and join once, but then thought twice -- so intimidated was he by our collective musical success. He feels like a failure -- all his success happening, as it did, thirty years ago....and here all he has to show for it is a royalty check every month mailed to his Malibu beach house.

Was he a member of the Rooftop Singers???

Easy on the ear, not earthshaking but poppy and pleasant. For some reason, possibly beer related I thought of the Cosmic Rough Riders.

Dewey ran for President and that didn't turn out so well either.

I mean, Horse With No Name is a long standing joke as the worst lyrics ever written. Yes. But, I just went over the Greatest Hits album again, (grabbed it on Rdio, another old album I loved.) Ventura Highway, Tin Man, Sister Golden Hair? Great tunes. I stand quite firmly with Mr. Millring on this, We stand on an island surrounded by seas full of Philistines.

Oh, I'm on the beach or at least in the shallows. Always enjoyed those tunes in the right dosage.
I was in Durango. CO a few weeks ago. As Sue and I strolled the evening sidewalk, I heard some acoustic music coming from the 2nd floor beer-garden patio of a restaurant and suggested we head up stairs to check it out. Some nice younger-than-me chick was crooning a nice America tune and strumming her Taylor whilest another guy, beyond-my-age (or at least with much rougher mileage), plucked some tasty electric lead work on a gold-top Les Paul. . . . , Quite enjoyable.
