Gus got carded at the Hobo Haus. I said "Gopher, are you nuts? It's only beer and besides he's not in school, it's a weekend!" Gopher apologised and re-filled Gus' glass.
There are reasonable folks in this world. Sometimes you just got to drive a while to find them.

I get carded for every alcohol purchase in the Iowa City area. It's a university town and student binge drinking is a serious problem. Twenty-five miles away in Cedar Rapids I never get carded even at the same retail chains.

It never happened to me shopping with my daughter, but once at a convenience store in Wisconsin the clerk wouldn't let me buy beer until Melva came back from the restroom so he could card her. He said a lot of times underage people would hide in the restrooms while someone else bought. That's stupid. Like Jeff, I always make the minors I'm buying for wait in the car.
At a restaurant the waitress asked Damien for ID when he ordered a Guinness but he didn't have it with him. But then she decided that if he was underage he wouldn't be drinking Guinness.
Devon, who's 27, used to be annoyed at always being carded. Recently she wasn't and she didn't know if she should be relieved or insulted.

The clerk probably looked at you, looked at your daughter, then decided that a young and attractive woman wouldn't be seen with a man of your age by choice. He was checking her ID so he could run it against outstanding Amber Alerts. (You probably didn't hear him ask her, "Are you safe right now, ma'am?" under his breath)

I occasionally got carded for cigarettes and booze around here but I think it was when someone had been caught selling to an underage and they were doing it to everyone just to make a point. I always just thank the person who carded me.

That's never happened to me, but in town they card virtually everyone. I always tell them my drivers license is a fake and I'm actually a minor. For some strange reason, they never believe me.

I'm with Jeff - I always have the kids pay me up front and wait for me in the parking lot.
Kidding, but yes, I have had a clerk check my son's ID when I was buying some wine.

David, Same thing always happened with my daughter. When she would order a stout or an IPA they wouldn't card her. If she liked Bud Light she would probably get carded every time. Mostly servers have very little discretion--especially at places that have ever been caught in under-age scams by the alcohol cops. In C'ville a while back several agents including ones with drawn guns tried to stop a young student who had carried a 12 pack of canned water to her car. She freaked and drove away and got busted, held overnight, etc. Charges eventually dropped and she sued the ABC for big bucks but I think that failed. The incident did cause changes in the ABC thugs' operations, however.

It's never happened to me but about six years ago I was standing at the checkout on a Tuesday when the woman at the register asked if I wanted the senior discount. It took three guys and a baseball bat to pull me off the bitch.
I later found out that Tuesday is their Senior day. I made a point of never going there on a Tuesday again.

In IL, the law says everyone has to give a birth date when buying booze. They always ask, at least where I live. I never got carded when buying bottles of Ripple at 19 but now I do.

I'm sure that Ripple doesn't count. I figure the Boones Farm drinkers are the kids around here, the old guys did their time with Ripple, or even Mad Dog 20/20.

Maddog 20/20. Now there is a memory I wish I could remember so I could forget it.

One of the worst drunks in my life. But it was fun while it was going on.

I only recognized 2 out of the 5 top. But didn't even list Ripple and Boones Farm.

Bums don't drink no 12 percent wine. T Bird, 20/20, etc are all fortified to 20 percent.

Maybe stick to weed and moonshine. Nah... but not moonshine!

I don't understand the whole concept. If the person buying is legal, that's all that should count. I suppose you could have your daughter leave the store and stand outside, and only you walk up to the counter. Then it's legal, right?
Pretty stupid.
