Apparently they were able to take a world-wide video with a camera that astronauts left on the moon. It's data like this that makes for the iron-clad proof necessary for policy changes.

That's a picture of a model. They just started taking actual readings. It may be interesting to see if actual concurs with the model.

Everybody knows that Antarctica is not that big. Who are these guys trying to kid ? ? ?

They have really big computers. That's important.

Maybe you missed that it's NASA with the camera?

The first line in the video says you're looking at a super-computer model of Co2. I think I put up a NASA link here a couple of months ago of them talking about a new satellite that is going to start taking real measurements and I think that's what Marshall was referring to too.

I think I'll move to Argentina, South Africa or Australia.

The only real beef I have with that video is that their visual representation is highly sensationalistic and very much misrepresents reality.
Reality is that CO2 is about 0.04% of the atmosphere...a trace gas. Any visual representation of the atmosphere where CO2 is visible at all is misleading. If all you know about the atmosphere is what you gleaned from this video, you'd think that the entire northern hemisphere is absolutely awash in a heavy saturation of CO2. That is not the case.
Other than that, it sure was pretty.

As near as I can tell, CO2 looks pretty much like a lava lamp.

And it's so easy for lay folks to mistake it for actual pictures.

I think they lied. The red is just hot air coming out of DC and spreading across the globe.

I get the impression that this model is an extrapolation of already known data. They're not making it up. Embellishing, yes. They don't now (I'm surmising) have the capability to track the CO2. But they've got sensors in enough places to know what the overall percentages are across the globe on a pretty regular basis. The satellite thingy will be tracking Bruce's activity with great precision. WARNING EUROPE ! ! ! ! A FRESH PLUME IS HEADING YOUR WAY. Remember, Bruce had Chilli Rellenos last night ! ! !

But they've got sensors in enough places to know what the overall percentages are across the globe on a pretty regular basis. That's what a model is, a hopefully predictive algorithm derived from known data. James' Skeptical Scientist site answers the question of the global warming models as being wrong with the answer that they do predict past data. Of course past data makes it a model. It better be able to predict the data it is derived from. The measure of whether it's a good model is whether it predicts the future. Which they don't seem to do. And, no they can't measure CO2 in the atmosphere. As Jeff said it's a trace element. There can't be enough sensors with enough precision to be able to make those kinds of assessments. There simply can't be. So they rely on models. Which often appear to be wrong.

I remember back in the 70's when cars were first equipped with catalytic converters how all the propaganda told us that CO2 was as harmless as a baby's first breath.
