A few years back Leo called me asking to come by before store hours to have me do some work for him. While I was working on his *Kopp guitar Leo was tinkering with guitars in the other room. He came back to the shop with a Martin J12-15 to ask me if it was tuned to concert pitch, it was. Leo said he was surprised because he liked it and usually didn't like 12 strings tuned that high, Leo usually tunes to or close to baritone. He asked me to hold the guitar for him and he would pick it up in a few days. Leo did come back and buy the guitar, which was a consignment piece. The owner had consigned the guitar with us and was applying the sale to the purchase of a new Taylor Leo Kottke 12 string. Imagine his surprise when we informed him of who bought his guitar.
* Leo has many guitars, two of which are Kevin Kopp Trail Boss models, 6 & 12. These unusual Jumbo guitars are cutaway and 12 frets to the body. Leo will use these guitars for non-concert situations.

My buddy Hank Alinger is a big Leo fan and a friend of Leo's. Last time I was at his place he had gotten maybe his fourth Kopp

Leo and I were impressed with the same make & model of 12-string. I'm not sure Martin is still making the J12-15. Had a lot of depth and appropriate 12-string jangliness without annoying tinny overtones.

Due to that guitar the Podium had Martin do a custom run of J12-15 guitars in high grade mahogany and gloss finish.

Talk about a king-size case of seller's remorse.

Should be told on stage between playing Kotke covers. But don't carry on too long, or too short. Whatever. Good tale.

I thought this thread was going to be about Fender guitars.

That's a pretty good story, Marty.
