What's a 'tan'? It's freezing here and that star of ours hasn't been sighted for days. Despite that the camelia in my front garden is blooming and there's blossom on the cherry trees, promising Spring. I heard a cuckoo too.

Today looks sunny and 50 something so I hope things dry out from the rain yesterday. I need to pump off the pool cover so the frogs don't turn it into a maternity ward like they did 2 years ago.
Had just taken out the old L7C and sat down to play yesterday when Mary came in saying she thought she was having a heart attack and had me call an ambulance. We spent 7 hours in the ER but after all the tests she had we don't know what caused her chest pains. Her heart seems OK, chest x-ray was OK, blood work was OK. She has had a cold for a couple of weeks and has done a lot of coughing so they think it may have been related to that. That wasn't on my list of things to do. She's still sleeping now but I guess all's well. Nothing's ever easy.

Good Morning Good People
Clear and cool, predicted to be sunny and springlike.
Headed over to Ann Arbor this afternoon for a concert at The Ark. Altan -- an Irish band I have been listening to for 20+ years and have longed to hear live. I have raved about Altan in previous postings here -- if rock & roll had originated in County Donegal, it would sound a lot like Altan.
Bruce -- good to hear Mary is OK. Tell her to stop scaring us like that.
Have an incredible Ides of March one and all.

Ides of Maureen. Wife's birthday. Grandchildren, bagels and lox, presents. Happy birthday wishes. It's a good feeling when one's birthday falls on a weekend. Then you don't have to burn a vacation day from the job. You have bagels in NH? Will wonders never cease... Got nothing accomplished yesterday, had big plans. Ahead today is tax prep and more tax prep, while wife and daughter go to visit my MIL, who broke her hip four days ago. Surgery went well, no replacement needed, and she has been moved into rehab in the same hospital, where her primary doc is head of the rehab program. They're saying three weeks before she can go home. I think she's more irritated than anything else. Have a good day, all. I hate paperwork.

Barb and I saw the Earls of Leicester at the Old Town School last night. Front row seats for nearly 2 hours of fantastic music by unimaginably talented performers. We loved every minute. Jerry Douglas is not of this earth, and I am not sure the rest of the band is either. Great way to spend and evening. Have a good day. It looks nice out there.

In this area, one of our best Irish trad fiddlers is of Japanese ancestry. His parents signed him up at 5 for Suzuki lessons, at which he excelled. Then, he says, in his teens he heard an album by Altan "and I was ruined for life." This afternoon I have the first of 3 performances this week for St. Paddy's Day. Gotta practice up a bit.

Morning
Nothing much going on today, get to play with the new phone. Grandsons Tyler and Sam will be by later to move my new computer desk upstairs. I will probably take them on a trip to Harbor Freight Co. and let them loose to browse tools and such. Then a visit to one of the wonderful little taco stands on the west side.

Happy Day-after-Pi-Day. I set my alarm for 9:26 last night. We were at a party. I made everyone celebrate Perfect Pi. It was an excuse to kiss all the women. Worked out pretty well.
I'm having blueberry pie for breakfast.

Happy birthday to Mrs. Coachdoc, happy healing to Mrs. Bruce, happy listening to Mr. Tamarack (love that Altan band) and happy whatever to everyone else.
Dinner with Babzi last night at a Moroccan-infused restaurant was really good -- spicy seafood tagine for me, sea-bass risotto for her. Good thing we had the Groupon, though -- even at half-price, we dropped a bundle.
At least I didn't get a ticket for an unsavory U-turn I made while trying to grab a just-vacated parking place when we arrived, an act witnessed by one of St. Paul's Finest, who indeed pulled me over, checked my papers, scolded me a bit and then leaned in to Barb and said "Give him crap for this, OK?"
Little did he know that SHE was the one who had seen the spot open up and yelled "Make a U-ie!"
That's what we Clydes get for listening to dem Bonnies!

That turn you made, Bill, is nothing around here. Infact, we call it "The Vinton U".

A beautiful day yesterday. Opened all the windows in the shop with the air filters on and gave it a good cleaning. The garage part was absolutely repulsive. Changed the filters on the sanding table and emptied the dust collector bin as well as blowing out the large canister filter. When I was done I was as dirty as I've been since I did the job last fall. Looking at the massive quantity of fine dust in the collection drum it's easy to see why guitar making is such a hostile work environment for lungs and sinuses. If I was starting over the first thing I would have bought is one of these with at least a 6" main line and built the shop around it. Took me 10 years to finally upgrade but it has lowered dust levels dramatically.

Ran 4 on the trails this morning. There is still some snow on the ground in the woods. The last two drifts in my yard won't last the day.

. . . , Looking at the massive quantity of fine dust in the collection drum it's easy to see why guitar making is such a hostile work environment for lungs and sinuses.. . . , I allways thought thats how particle board was made; from the compressed residue from Kleenexes of wood workers.
