Just now starting to sip the stuff.
Last time I was in London, my friend sent me home with a same box of about 8 whiskeys...of that batch, Jameson was my fave.
About 6 months ago I bought a bottle of "1792" bourbon and greatly enjoyed it. I finally finished it and bought a bottle of Jameson. Uh, I'm going back to 1792.

The whisk(e)y threads have been interesting. After seeing various suggestions, I have tried (and then retried) Buffalo Trace, having found it quite satisfying. The real revelation to me here were the Irish Whiskeys. I like both Bushmills and Jameson. Cheaper and better than the Crown Royal that has been my staple for a good while.
If you're looking to drop $75 on a single malt, Bowmore Darkest is smokey paradise indeed.
A couple years ago I was reading an airline's in flight magazine and was informed that premium Scotch was available on international flights only. They were referring to Glenlivet 12. Seriously?

Tried Bulleit bourbon and compared side-to-side with Jameson. I can see how this could be a "thing".
They are quite different. I like them both. In teensie quantities.

I'm a big fan of Irish whiskey. I have never been able to get into bourbon. I'm not sure why but it's just not to my taste.
12 year old Jameson's is a nice choice. I made the mistake of buying a bottle of Jameson's Red Breast a couple of years ago. Very expensive but ohhhhh soooo smooth!
I also like many of the single malt Scotch whiskeys.
I'm a sipper so I prefer my Irish whiskey slightly warm in a glass. Body temperature or even slightly warmer is best.

I was in a production of "The Crucible." It was a professional production, so it included 8 shows a week on six days. (Sometimes more, with added high school matinees) It's a long show (3 hrs) and there are a Lot of men in the cast. I must make note that it was a pure piece of "genius" of a production. The director was incredible.
Anyhooo! The guy who played Proctor kind of initiated a little ritual for after the evening performances. Well, certainly Thurs/Fri/Sat evenings and after the Sunday matinee, where turn by turn, each guy in the cast would bring in an incredibly expensive bottle of single malt scotch. You know, something you'd never dream of buying just for yourself. And the math worked almost perfectly. With such a large cast and visitations from Elizabeth and Goody Nurse also popping into the men's dressing room, once they were changed into their suitable evening nappies, we could collectively 'polish off' a bottle with each performer getting a generous snoot! It was an education!! I wish I could recreate the litanies of appraisals both good and bad, but would most want to leave you with impressions of collegial goodwill. Some would just dip their beak a time or two and others would advance to two snoots sweet. It was a fun. And amounted to everyone's gift to the cast.
The varieties that left the most enduring impression on me, were the ones with the heavy characterization of "peat." It was kind of a love/hate relationship. At first it seemed 'way too much' for me but then I would try it again and again and oooolala! It would have to be one of those 'acquired' things. Expensive hobby to say the least. But at least I got the opportunity to dip my beak in some amazing single malts.
Just a memorable time that occurred to me with this thread.

I'm still off the bourbon, and dancing with my girl, Fortaleza Reposodo tequila. She is so fine.
