Not a good idea, huh? . . . , Especially when it's in the front. . . . , And it's already attached to the back of a Honda Odyssey. But that seems to be what I had subconsciously in my mind today.
To be more literal, I was crawling along in bumper to bumper traffic in Arlington Heights about 4:30 this afternoon. And the (aforementioned) Odyssey took off in front of me. So I stepped on the gas, and started moving, and at the wrong time, looked down for a second to see if I had a nail file in the tray and WHAM. Traffic made a sudden stop and I wasn't on my game. And as a result I hit the Odyssey going about 10 mph. But I hadn't hit the brake yet. I pushed teh Odyssey into a Nissan in front of it. The Nissan has a scratch on the plastic bumper. The Odyssey had a cracked front plastic bumper. The Odyssey rear with the solid trailer hitch was rock sold and didn't get a scratch. But that lovely trailer hitch did a BIG number on the Corolla. Trashed the front. Bent a heavy cross bar. Pushed that into the radiator and bent teh radiator. Though it didn't rupture and leak any fluid. The hood doesn't seat all the way now. And the right front fender is only partially attached to the rest of the car.
Could be the end of the road for the Corolla. I'm real bummed. I was able to drive the car 2 miles home down side streets, though some plastic was rubbing on the tire. Tomorrow I'll take a couple of coat hangers and wire the parts together and head over the collision place and see if the car is worth repairing.
**sigh**
Nobody was hurt. It was such a slow crash, the air bags weren't even deployed. But the Corolla is a wreck.
