Good morning/afternoon.
This comes from a hospital room--on june 24th I crashed pretty bad (cycling), but am now at lest on the mend. I hit a groove in the road, which snatched onto my front wheel, and I quickly went down the the right, maybe about 25kmh. Collarbone broken in two places, plus six ribs (maybe seven), plus the biggie, a broken pelvis.** Surgery late on the 26th, one long Ti plate up above, two on the pelvis. Doc says surgery went perfectly. I've got some pics, x-rays/CT and surgery in progress, that I'll maybe post someday. Today's milestone--up and out of bed, into a wheelchair, and back.
**on the right, from the top potato chip-like part down to the ball/hip joint.
But I've got a private room, internet, and the odd thing about the crash was that I didn't lose any skin--no cuts, lacerations, road rash, stitches (apart from the surgery).
Needless to say, I've been staring at ceilings a lot... I'm on official leave from work for eight weeks, my classes have been parcelled out, and I've done a bit of coordinating from here for that.
I had been thinking of some touring in the fall, but I guess that's off the list.
***
Younger kid, after finishing in vancouver at the end of april, spent another week there, then down the west coast, then into mexico for about a month, then to my sisters in chicago, and (whew) has now checked in for a five week summer program:
She'll be home mid-august, and I should be getting around pretty well by then.
