I have found myself on the same path, Rick. It has become pretty clear to me that my skill set has been declining of late, so I had a talk with the Boss. I was a little nervous about it, but my wife assured me that while my skill set most certainly has declined over the years, my skill set , such as it is, was still needed and appreciated.
I did negotiate a reduced work schedule, which I think will help me to put more into the job and keep me fresh.

She keeps on finding you at that hobo place, dancing on the tables with them, in various states of undress. While she understands that his is normal in your area, the fact that you were calling them "snookums" with a fake Norwegian accent does have her a bit worried.

From stressed out, 12 hour, Emergency Department work on rotating shifts to 8 hr Mon-Wed family practice day shifts, felt like such a demotion. Took me 1 week to realize I'm in heaven.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, FP. And Peter too.
I hope both of you find something soon.
I've out of work since mid-June. Started a temp job last week that will take me through the end of January. At least I've got a couple of bucks coming in while I search for something more long-term.

I will say this. I am truly grateful for the fact that I worked for the telephone company for 35 1/2 years, even though it was a long, mostly joyless slog. But here I am with a pension. And I learned skills and had experience that have transitioned over to now. I have been insulated from economic problems since I was 19 years old. And that's certainly a very good thing.

There is nothing like walking away from a job, I always say. Opportunities knock. Sorry about the uncomfortable feeling, but you are both top notch guys and someone will be happy, no, relieved, to have you apply.

You can tell this is a Soundhole thread when I first read the title I didn't see the "off". And was going to say TMI.
