Went to bed with the Kindle, finished a book, and fell asleep by 11:00. Exciting enough for me.

Happy New Year.
Got a sort of shock reading the paper this morning. The Chinese couple who ran the nail salon I've been getting my acrylics at had a murder/suicide. The police report says she shot him and then turned the gun on herself. That sort of thing doesn't happen around here, 'til now I guess.

Making chili today, some friends are coming over to watch movies. Really getting the new year off right. I'm making chili, too! And the sun has come out and KSJN is playing some great stuff and at 2 p.m. they are going live with the MN Orch doing Beethoven's First and Ninth symphonies -- Barb heard that same program last night and said it was fab. Helped Mom put up the Christmas decorations until next year. Laundry and pack the bags for the trip home tomorrow.

Started out as Crappy New Year. Woke up to 40F outside and 63F inside. Some banging around and turning things off and unplugging and restarting and the furnace is working again.
Then I had some computer problems. Now fixed or maybe never really broken.
Maybe our luck will be better after we have our black-eye peas tonight. But I think that Bruce "wins" with the terrible news to start the year.

How can you win with black-eyed peas? Blech.
Sorry. I grew up on those things, and never did take a liking.

I never had black-eyed peas as a kid in Montana. But I long ago married a guy from Texas. So I'm obligated to eat them once a year. A variety of hot sauces makes them edible. And the cornbread is good.
