Identity beats analogy
Analogy beats reason
Reason beats nothing

My, that 's awfully observant of The Observer. College campuses are very strange places these days. A few weeks back someone had no trouble getting 85 out of a hundred students, approached at Yale, to sign a petition to get rid of the first amendment. If these kids are our future, no wonder so many folks want to be well armed.

Interesting article. They couldn't be more wrong about the debate being phony, though. The fact that they label debate "phony" is tooooo ironic.

Beyond the headline, frequently a poor indicator of an article's contents, I think there is lots of food for thought. Edit - perhaps you missed a 'the'.

And I think you’re right, James. From the last paragraph: The article covers a lot of ground, but one of the main takeaways that I got was the partisan use of the term “politically correct:"

LOL, Marshall!
“When it comes to repression on college campuses, there’s really no evidence that there’s some left-wing, politically correct attack on freedom of speech,”
Oh yes there is!

Too much to quote here. A good compendium can be found on Rod Dreher's blog. He quotes from many fingerplucked-approved sources, unapproved sources and many personal accounts. He is an academic, front-porcher, localist, orthodox Christian. Maybe you'll just skip it. But it's amazing and disheartening to read what's been going on under our noses. You'll have to skip through blog posts on other topics, but there's plenty there. www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/You know, if you're interested. I understand if you're not.

You'll have to go to "older posts" to start hitting that content.
