Congrats!!! Not easy for old guys to get back in the work force. Somehow experience, good judgment and wisdom don't translate into employability in this strange new world.

Great news, Jim. I hope you get two offers and have to decide between them. That's a nice situation to be in.
I've just gone back to work after being off since mid-August, except for a 3 month temp job in between.
Todd already knows this story. This is about the oddest way of getting hired I've ever heard of.
I've been working with several agencies. A few weeks ago one of them called and asked if I'd be interested in doing the books for a very nice restaurant not far from where I live. I interviewed with the owner and it seemed to go very well. During the course of the interview the owner told me that her husband owns several companies in the aviation industry and that if she didn't always need me full time I would probably be able to help out her husband. That sounded good to me.
A week or so went by and I got another call from the agency asking if I'd do a telephone interview with the controller for the husband's companies. The wife thought it would be a good idea to get the perspective of another accountant. That interview went well too.
The following week the agency called again and asked if I would interview with the husband. We met at the restaurant. It took about 30 seconds for me to realize I wasn't interviewing for the restaurant job. I was interviewing for the husband's companies. The interview last 2 1/2 hours and only about 75% of it was related to the interview itself. The rest was just general conversation. The husband and his wife and in my age range and we seemed to hit it off pretty well. The following day I was offered the job. It's a temp job but there seems to be a decent chance that it could be permanent.
What a pleasure is was to interview with an old fart who recognized the value that another old fart with tons of experience and know-how might be able to bring to his business.
The company I'm working for flies cargo on contract in various places around the world. They have a contract with one of the major package delivery companies to fly cargo into smaller towns/airports that can't accommodate big jets. My boss is an ex-Air Force pilot and he also has some government contracts to fly stuff where ever the government needs it to be flown. The assignment I'm working on now has to do with the acquisition of a small cargo carrier in the Caribbean. They have a contract with the same package delivery company and they fly to most of the islands south and east of Puerto Rico.
For the past two weeks I've been doing due diligence stuff; reviewing contracts, doing financial analysis, figuring out the costs involved with servicing each one of the flights on the flight schedule, and working on the bid for the purchase of the coompany. Interesting stuff and the kind of thing I really like to do.
Sometime in the next couple of weeks we'll be flying down to Puerto Rico to meet with the owner and submit our bid. I'm in the process of getting a passport because the company is located on an island called St. Kitts which is part of the British Commonwealth (or whatever they call it). It seems that over the next few months I may have several opportunities to go down there. The best thing about that is that my boss has no problem with scheduling the trips around my performance schedule.
I've worked for this guy for two weeks now. He and his wife are both a breathe of fresh air. This may well turn out to be my dream job!

That sounds like an interesting job, Lar. Let’s hope it’s permanent and doesn’t end until you want it to.

Congratulations!
When I think back on my working life it struck me how lucky I was to have only two periods of interviewing for jobs; out of college and the last job I retired from. And both of those came quickly with no period of unemployment. Seems very rare these days.

Congratulations, both of you. Except for that moment when you realize that you didn't get any of those things done that you thought you'd work on while you had a lot of free time.
