Happy May 1th! I live in the Midwest, and traditionally church cookbooks constitute a compendium of the best hotdish and bar recipes a little old Lutheran lady can muster. However, every once in awhile someone is asleep at the editing desk and something like this slips through. Although, I admit I do not have a very adventurous palate, so I'd like to get your thoughts on this particular recipe. And, would it be better or worse if it was out on a picnic table in the sun for three hours during a church social or potluck?

I hate iceberg lettuce to this day, since my mother made serve-on-a-bed-of-lettuce "salads", and I had to eat the lettuce, too.
Otherwise, it looks okay. (maybe go lighter on the celery)

Good morning. Happy May but we still seem to be having April showers. At least there wasn't any rain for the 150 mile trek to dinner last night. Mary blew her diet and had 4 lobster tails at the Japanese Steak House. They're not very big, not real Maine 2 pound lobsters. Still, she probably has to fast for a couple of months to get back on her weight loss target. She said it was worth it. Got no plans today beyond not driving 150 miles for dinner.
Have a good one.

Happy May to you all.
I would tear up that recipe card, burn it and then bury the ashes.

My Mom, Jane, was raised in Mattoon, Illinois. Her house keeper's name was Mattie. My Dad, big brother, and new wife, Darie all call me Mattie.
From Mom I learned to love Green jello with canned pear halves, cherry Jello made with Cragmont Black Cherry Cola, pickled peaches but drew the line at canned pickled beets. I learned from her the difference between a Jello Salad and a green salad. My house was mayonnaise free because Dad preferred Miracle Whip.
Try the tuna. Finish it and there will be a Coke Float for dessert.

Good Morning Good People
Cloudy and rainy and chilly for the first of May. Our Sunday paper delivery person carefully puts the paper in a plastic bag and then hurls it from halfway down the driveway, tearing little holes from abrasion. Capillary action being what it is we end up with w a wet paper.
Off to church with Mizz Lola, then housework. Would be dull without Mizz Lola.
Have a marvelous May Day one and all. SoundHole rules and regulations prohibit dancing around a May Pole.

Kris -- "asleep at the editing editing desk" sounds like a typical Monday morning for me, but I see that recipe as legit, if awful.
As reported last night on yesterday's daily, but prolly missed by most of youse:
Just back from hearing Lonnie and his bass player Reid at Ingredients Cafe in White Bear Lake, and I gotta say he has never sounded better -- of course it didn't hurt that the last mini-set, maybe six songs, constituted the top of my Lonnie Request List, even though I had not requested anything.
Love this guy and his muse. Nice to be Patti's seatmate, too, upped my image, for sure.

File under "Horrors of the American Midwest" It should occupy a spot somewhere above the dread Maidrite.

A guy I work with collected a whole bunch of food ads from the 50s and 60s and made a book called "The Gallery of Regrettable Foods" years ago. He has since converted it to a free website -- check out "Gel Cookery": www.lileks.com/institute/gallery/CAUTION: James' site is a potential time suck of monstrous proportions. He is a very funny and clever guy and the stuff he has collected is quite amazing. But if you have nothing else to do, enjoy the hell out of it!

I have a long list of chores today -- just scratched off "Unload dishwasher" and "Clean terlet." Next up, "Change furnace filter" and "load washing machine."

Nobody put flowers on my porch:(
Another clear blue sky day, s'posed to push 70 today - lots to do outside and then for the first time in three weeks play some bridge with Doug and the guys.
I think I had some of that pseudo-aspic growing up outside of Pittsburgh at a school function - it looked like a dessert and tasted REALLY strange.

Just got back from the first bi and tri cycle ride with the new wife. I thought she was going to turn around 10 miles from home, but she pushed it to 15 for a 30 mil round trip.
She has been riding the 2 mile commute to work a few days each week, but this was 28 miles farther on her road bike rather than the Electra Amsterdm I bought her in 2014.
I just cruised on my Catrike and had a great ride. Finally made it to 100 miles a week after three years trying to make it back.

That recipe is just wrong. I have nothing more to say.
Except, holy crap! LOL.
