Any here ever find pencil marks from the luthier inside your axe? I suppose it would be considered a "blemish" to some, but I'm rather fond of the marking myself. It's scrubbed where you can only see it with a mirror. The guitar will be 40 years old in April.
It's an Alvarez-Yairi DY57 (Winchester) model.

Yes. I have found them inside various guitars. I think it is fairly common.

It's not the luthier, Bob. It's my phone number.

Who is "Kilroy" anyway?

If you remove them you'll ruin the guitar's tone and lose all collectors value. The damn case will be worth more than the guitar!

Gibson marks the pickup cavities with pencil to indicate the type of finish they'll put on their electrics. Fender used to use pencil to date their necks.

So, if you play a Fender, you might be a pencil neck geek.

"Yum !"

After 40 years, why the heck are you looking inside your guitar now?

He dropped a pick in the soundhole.

I have found such things in my guitars. My initials are in my Langejans--probably so he could keep the various guitars he was building at the time straight. One of the Martins has numbers on the soundboard. One has rude things about Marshall in it, but I wrote that myself.

I went to hear Joan Baez some years back when she gave a concert in Cedar Rapids. She told the story of C.F. Martin wanting to issue a Joan Baez model made to match the one she'd famously played for three or four decades. They asked to borrow her guitar and at the same time perform some needed restoration on it. She talked about being on the road with it and how sometimes it would need some emergency repair that had to be done by the nearest competent repairman. When Martin removed the top of her guitar for restorative work they found these words written in pencil behind the bridge: “Too bad you're a communist.”
On edit: I've always wondered if the new Joan Baez model included that inscription.

That probably voided the warranty.

Joan is in the Rock n Roll Hall of fame. Poor Ted Nugent.

Well, she approved the inscription being reproduced in the signature models and I heard her interviewed about the story. She was laughing pretty easily about it. I doubt that we are in danger of Joan to taking over the country just because some long ago and forgotten Martin employee decided to editorialize. I will refrain from hiding under the bed.

The way she told it the editorial comment was written by some forgotten repairman during her travels, not by anyone at C.F. Martin. Martin found it when they took the top off.

I wrote a little love note to my family on my top before the box was closed. Only problem is that it appears backwards when I look at it with a mirror.
