I have decided to go into the guitar aging business. For, oh, let’s say, $500 I will make your guitar look like hell. I will scrape it, ding it, pour staining liquids on it, kick it a few times and drag it behind my car for at least one hundred feet.
My company motto:Let Me be the cause of your stress!
Let’s get those guitars, and checks, on the way today!

That is a candidate for leaving at the desrt condo. Mike Desert is hard on wood guitars. I agree. I once had a customer at the Podium that wanted to buy a Collings or Santa Cruz to keep at his winter seaside retreat in Mexico. He planned to leave it there all summer, no AC, no nothing for 6 months. It took me a few days, while he tried out many guitars, to convince him he wanted a Rainsong, I did. He thanked me every time he came by the Podium after that. He didn't like the Rainsong anywhere near as much as wood guitars but he loved it because after 6 months of Mexican summer it was in perfect shape and in tune.

I get the feeling that in addition to the open tuning there are some pretty heavy effects on that recording. That said, I too am amazed at what you can get nowadays for under $500. It’s a whole new ball game. The one thing they lack is the mojo of a proper label on the headstock and a little distressing. Could be an idea for a profitable aftermarket cottage industry. Marty we should talk. You want me to beat the crap out of one of your guitars?

I was thinking more put a Gibson logo on a $200 Fender and then beat the crap out of it. Mine shall remain pristine unless acted upon by the owner in conventional fashion. I might consider including a distressing kit with new instruments. Perhaps a trophy buckle and sharpened stainless steel pick.

I was deeply disappointed to see Martin join the craze to make new guitars look old. Martin of all companies should understand that genuine mojo has a long gestation period.
I live a mere one hour away from Elderly and a trip to Lansing is long overdue. I shall have to check out the Farida guitars and their suitability for old-time music.
