Had the perfect NYE gig, a dinner for 60 at the wine bar. 5-9:30. Home by 10:30.
Marty we made that chili verde a couple of weeks ago. Yum, even more yum when reheated the next day.

We went out to a local music place last night to hear Scottie Miller and his band. What a monster piano player. Dinner was overpriced but the music was more then worth it.

As Marty mentioned, it's blindingly sunny and cold here, and I do need to venture out, only to a very close-by supermarket, but that seems cruel to the car so I guess I will go to a more distant one and at least allow Blue Slate to warm up. There is a marathon of car-building shows on the Velocity channel today, so I'll be watching some of those until 5 or so, when Babzi has invited me over for Alaskan salmon, bubbly, etc.
Let's all hope for a healthy and happy new year!

Had dinner in, a perfect steak cooked by da wife. One daughter home. Watched some hockey, (World Juniors,) watched the Queen of Katwe, (very enjoyable,) drank too much, and went to bed just after midnight.
Just below freezing here, will be a beautiful day.

Good morning, denizens of The Soundhole, Pioneers of 2018. It's a balmy 19°F in Brooklyn, NY, this morning. "Real Feel" 6°F.
Hosted some friends and our next-door neighbors last night. It was pleasant, but loads of work for yours truly. I always marvel at how my wife invites people over after I nix the idea, and then I end up doing the lion's share of cooking, serving, clean-up... didn't get to sleep until 3:30, and there's some weird, crusty, kid-manufactured dried slime stuck to the sofa. I did make some killer Swedish meatballs and a seafood risotto, in addition to a kale and sweet-potato salad, all washed down with icy cold prosecco. Cheeses, smoked salmon, olives, clementines. One friend brought a delicious loaf of home-baked bread. We discovered that the space between the balcony storm door and the inner door makes a great refrigerator.
My best friend's annual birthday jam today has been pushed to next Sunday because he has a terrible cold. I have the day off! Nap time beckons.
Happy New Year, all.

Up. I had forgotten how much Hawaii loves it’s fireworks. Last night felt and sounded like WWIII. Sheesh.
Anyway, Katie made it back to PDX on the red eye, and Anita and I are still here in Maui trying to shake off the cobwebs of a late night with coffee. So far our only plans are to pick up some papayas at the farmers market. Maybe I’ll go for a paddle later.

Was supposed to go to the chili fun fly at the flying club today, not gonna happen. Decided it was a good day to do guitar maintenance instead.

Went to our first Noon Year's Eve party. Quite enjoyable. The restaurant was completely filled. There were a decent guitarist and bassist. Drums from nowhere must have been on a backing track. A singer who was OK, but not as good as she thought she was. There was a countdown to noon. My salmon en croute was excellent and enormous. Mr. H's chicken cordon bleu was perfection. Plus salad, potatoes, carrots, champagne, chocolate mousse, coffee, and champagne all for $23 each, tax included. Regular tip and an extra $20 to the waitress who regularly serves at Mr. H's Old Farts Coffee. Best part is that since they were sold out, we got put at a table for 4 with a couple that we didn't know. Started out a little awkward, but we are used to this from cruises. It turned out that they are also retired and they live close to us, he plays keyboard sort of professionally, and we have a lot of common interests. We exchanged phone numbers and may have a date in our future. Making new friends is not a bad way to start the year.

Lol, was always the most disappointing party of the year.
