Thank you, everyone. Never had the chance to log in here yesterday, just seeing these good wishes now.
So, last week I mailed in my application for a senior discount fare card to the MTA, for reduced fare rides on the subway and buses. You know, you have to be 65 years old before you can do that. Later this week, I am going to pop in to the Social Security Admin field office and enroll in Part A of Medicare. I can't do this online because someone hijacked my ss# a few years ago and filed a fraudulent tax return. Hard to believe all these years have flitted by. On reflection, I feel I could have done more with this life than I have. All that potential, nothing kinetic. Perhaps there's still time to write that novel.
Birthday day was quiet and relaxed. Had a splendid dinner the night before, in a restaurant where one of my son's many friends is the head chef. I guess he's old enough now to have friends who have such occupations. Anyone familiar with the newest trend in wines — "orange" wines? We had an "orange" pinot grigio with dinner that was not really orange; just somewhat cloudy with a slight citrus tang (the breakfast drink of the astronauts?) but very smooth and refreshing. My favorite dish was the grilled octopus with barbecued potatoes, black beans, and andouille sausage, which was delicious and perfectly cooked. I felt a bit bad; the octopus is just around as intelligent as humans claim to be. But it was a taste treat.
Feels sort of funny if I think about being on this side of seniority for too long. I appreciate your good wishes, and thank you.

Feh. I remember when I was in my 60's. It warn't too bad. Except when the pretty counter girl in the movie theater gives me a senior discounted ticket without asking. ;-)

Getting older is not the problem. Not getting older is the problem. Suck it up and move on. Some who reach the advance age of 65 actually are still able to accomplish a few things. I have been getting the Senior discount for years. I thought it was a Spanish thing--Senor Discount--and wondered why they thought I was Hispanic. Now I realize it is Senior Discount and that all the oldies get it. Oh well, I will take my 20% and smile while doing it. muchas gracias.

It was. I'm on the other side of it now. I just wanted to thank everyone and hadn't logged in here until today.

I thought it was yesterday? You thought today was yesterday or, you thought yesterday was today? Or did you think Old Howard’s birthday was today or did you realize it was yesterday? Or were you just confused about everything? Howard’s birthday was yesterday but today, Sunday, is the day after yesterday which makes it now—although time is fleeting and by the time you read this, it will have been written in the past. Whoa! Heavy, huh?
