Thanks for clearing that up epaul. Seriously... It is a sensitive area for me ... I have hopes of some positive and very, very, useful plants, procedures and products arising out of genetic engineering, yet I see genetic engineering fear mongered and demonized on near daily basis, even to the point of using the words to damn products and procedures that have nothing to do with genetic engineering, meaning opponents have been successful into turning the words "genetic engineering" into a damning catchall phrase meaning "work of the devil who lurks in the prideful mind of ignorant man" that can be applied to damn near anything. A look at the comments section demonstrated to me that the writer's use of the phrases "genetic engineering" and "turbo-charged genetics" had hit paydirt, with several commentators lamenting the evils of a science that produces "Franken-Deer" and "Mutant Monsters" and greedily turns them loose to work evil in what once was Eden. The comments section of the Strib was percolating freshly in my mind when I posted. I need to stop reading the comments section. I can't handle it.

We had a little snow squall yesterday and after a vendor visit I went home early and walked the route with fresh powder on it. 2 whitetail does - 1 bedded and one running that skidded to a stop about 200 yards out. I'm not looking for does. Given I was 2 miles in I doubt I would even shoot a buck unless it was a monster. I did cut some very fresh elk tracks heading down in to a timbered bottom but looked like several cows. I walked a ridge above them out hoping for a look but ran out of daylight. So it was an ok outing. My method for hunting is still hunting which is basically slow walking and frequent pauses through timber and up and down the ridges. I'm not much for sitting in a stand but as I get older I see the appeal

I hear this distorted erratic cow mew with a comical broken and ragged gurgle mixed in. I thinks to myself "man that guy need to practice his cow call a lot more". majorminor, that reminds me of duck hunting and being disdainful of a nearby hunter's call. So I walked over to see what doofus was making such a ridiculous noise and spooked a group of ducks which flew off, disdaining my birdshot. Not a hunting story, but similar. As a leader at Boy Scout camp I woke up to the sound of a few older scouts trying to imitate coyote howls in the night in order to scare some of the younger scouts. They were the worst imitation I ever heard. Obviously these boys had never heard a real coyote. I got up to put an end to that nonsense and stepped out into a quiet night with coyotes howling across the lake.

Are you sure the "howls" weren't coming from that proverbial girl scout camp located across the lake (where they always are)?
