OK. Then I don't understand what's the big rebel deal? You're company is working. You're working. You don't have to shoot your way in, do you?

This guy is five kinds of crazy smart. PhD, multiple international media and academic publications, ridiculously off the charts CV, etc, etc, etc. And yet somehow the message "you don't leave a gas pump unattended" never got through. I once took a weekend handgunning class with a friend of mine who fits that mold; PhD, award-winning, published; former union organizer, community radio show host, tri-lingual, Bernie supporter; the classic liberal intellectual, and just smarter than hell. Fiercely intelligent. At one point during a brief lull while shooting on the line, I look over, and he’s looking down the barrel of his pistol.. Damn, dude. I’m no PhD, and I’ve figured that one out... The next thing I noticed was our butthead Governor Northam's announcement that we are supposed to lock down in our homes until f'ing June 10 (conveniently one day after the Republican primaries here) under penalty of a year in jail and a $2500 fine. One would think he might have learned from the recent gun hubbub, but apparently he didn't. Virginia is somewhat unique in that the largest portion of the population is now directly supported by the Administrative State but the vast majority of the land mass is occupied by military, special forces, and general rednecks with guns. This is ground zero for the next civil war. On point, there’s a guy in your neck of the woods, who retired after 22 years of doing one of the toughest jobs on the planet, on behalf of the United States. He’s certified by Naval SpecWar as an instructor in a bunch of stuff, including small arms, explosives, etc. He has killed *piles* of people, on multiple continents over the years. When that gun stuff was bubbling up, and Northam was locking down, he was training a bunch of people for free, many of whom had LE creds. He wasn’t the only guy with a prior oath to defend the constitution so engaged. When I was making comments here last year about keeping an eye on VA, I had some good reasons for typing that. There isn’t another state with this level of cultural division. I guess NM might be a far distant second place. JMO. There are many "controls" in our society that we take for granted. Ask Michael about driving through an intersection when you have a green light? We take for granted that we can cross railroad tracks when the lights aren't flashing. We don't look both ways for a train first. Oh man, you just reminded me of a story that I have GOT to share: When I was in HS, I drove this ‘76 Datsun B210. The classic Japanese 4-cylinder beer can that is impossible to kill. Granted, the body work was chintzy, and the driver’s door froze shut in the winter, etc. but I drove that thing for 2 years like I stole it from Vin Diesel. When I traipsed off to the UW in Seattle, my younger sister (rest her soul) inherited the hand-me-down for her 2 years of epic DUI evasion. Time comes when lil’ sis is driving through a suburban neighborhood one Tuesday afternoon, and some older gentleman backs out of his driveway into her as she’s coming down the street; totally the other guy’s fault. When the body place gives an estimate to fix the B210’s flimsy curves, it’s high enough to total the car. The old guy’s insurance wants to send an inspector out, because they don’t buy the idea of a low speed fender bender doing that sort of damage. So they have their guy call my dad, and he says he will be over from the coast on the following Monday. Of course, that leaves the weekend in between. That Saturday, Sis is on a bender with HS friends, and she comes to a railway crossing with the lights all a flashing, and the bell sounding. but the crossing bar is broken off, so when the pivot comes down to block the road, there’s nothing in it. So what does sis do? She pulls out to go on her merry way, and gets hit by a freaking train!incredibly, everyone walked away from the sudden intersection of Union Pacific and B210, but you should have seem the front of that car. Ever grill corn on the cob with butter in tinfoil on the barbecue? You know the pile of crumpled, greasy tinfoil in the garbage after dinner? Paint that pile blue, and you’re pretty much there with visualizing the old Datsun. That train really fucked the front end of that poor car up. Anyhoo, AAA tows the car back to our parent’s house, and dumps it across the street. In all the excitement everyone sort of forgot about the insurance adjuster from Seattle. Dude shows up on Monday to take photos of "the front end damage in contention." My dad, figuring less is more, only answers the questions asked. "Is THAT the car?!?" "Yes sir, that’s the car" "Holy shit..." Dude never thought to ask if the car had been in more than one accident that week, and my dad didn’t bring it up. They totalled the car.

Who the hell is Erik Zimmerman? An ultraconservative dude in Jerusalem with a personal website of his collected Facebook posts and opinions who would probably struggle to convince the nurses of NYC or Lombardy that covid-19 is "The Weakest Virus Known to Man". Edit - he has a Twitter account with 15 followers which is more than me. He also has 30 followers on Facebook. (Zimerman has one m)

I guess NM might be a far distant second place. JMO... Well, I don't think any state has a cultural divide like we have right here in North Dakota. You get a potato farmer and beet grower in the same cafe, it can get pretty darn ugly. And if a barley guy should show up? Uffda! Then by god you better start brewing some more coffee or all heck will break out.
