Of course I happen to have a tape measure on my desk right next to the computer. Cabinets are 18" above the countertops, dead on the nose. Then again, I built and installed them.

Thanks. I'm getting ready to install. I read that 18" was standard, but thought it would leave only the lowest shelf for Dar to be able to reach.

I lived in a very old house for a while that had ceramic tile countertops. Small yellow ones, so there was nice little grouted spaces that crumbs and other stuch messes would accumulate. This was made worse by the fact that the edges of the counter had a 1 tile lip, so you couldn’t wipe stuff off into a dustpan or your hand. It was incredibly annoying.
