Another option for interaction -- If you have Vonage or some other VOIP -- an inexpensive reliable way to conference is www.freeconferencecall.com -- everyone who dials in pays their own LD rate and their is NO bridge charge and up to 99 participants at once. No head phones, no computers necessarily and the quality of transmission is pretty flawless. I use it all the time for conferences at the office.

Well, far be it from me not join the fun. pKuchski on Skype. I'll tryp Paltalk one of these days too. Of course, for it to be of any use, you need to have the thing turned on too. Is this any different than the Yahoo messenger though? I know with Yahoo messenger I can get the video to work. I can't seem to with Skype.

Here's where we are at right now:
PalTalk is cool, but the audio isn't as good as Skype, and you must click to push a button to talk, so only one can talk at a time.
Skyp is more like a regular conversation, folks can talk at the same time, and the audio and video are great. The downside is it only allows 4 or 5 people in a conference, I think.
I haven't tried Yahoo Messenger or any of the others. Might not hurt for us to check out a couple programs and/or web sites.

Paul, I have you added too.
Sorry for not checking back in today..... been on the run since early this morning and then the power was out all afternoon. I think I am "chak_12" on Skype. John, SteveO, can someone confirm this so that I don't keep posting wrong info??
Cribbs, good point about PalTalk - I recall the need to push a button to talk; yes quite troublesome. I needed to use a stapler to hold down the "CTRL" key so that I had both hands free to play the guitar! I agree that there are probably other potential programs/sites to do what we are trying to do - it's just a matter of finding one that works.
Micheal, look for something in your e-mail in the next day or so - you've given me an idea......., Chak

I am checking out Skype for the first time and wondered whether I could call someone up and play guitar across the Internet? Sandy Shalk and I are always trying to meet in between our homes to work out some duet ideas. And this seems to be a little too good to be true.
Can some tell me something -- in a direct 1-1 conversation call, do each of us need a head set AND a separate microphone in order to play guitars and have the guitar playing get picked up by the system? Is this really just enabled for voice conversation or has someone really "jammed" on line with this system? It seems cheap enough to check out ($15-20 of equipment) but a lot of bother if the system has a lot a latency.

Tim,
It seems to me that as little or as much as you wanna put into it can be done. With no more than a $15 mic from radio shack, Chak and I were able to clearly hear each other on guitar and voice. And we could both play at the same time if we wanted.
I know it can get more involved if you want -- with video cams and amplified and processed signal -- but it's not necessary. And at $0.00 the price is right.

can you really play duets and jam together? Can you record the conversation/session?
