Wow. What a scary, rotten night. Good that daylight brought relief. Pretty reassuring response from your EMT folks.

Thanks, everybody. Aside from understandable tiredness (as much from hospital protocols as anything--awakened every two hours for vitals checks Thursday night), C is her old self--though she has decided not to go up to campus and work there. Just as well--her building is locked on weekends, so I couldn't get in to check on her without calling security if she had another episode. I'm going to tie her to the sofa and make her watch NCIS reruns with me.

That's scarier than all get out. Been somewhere similar a few times in our marriage although not close to that severe.
I'm praying for you regardless. Hope it works out.

Russell, I am hoping for the best outcome from over here. It seems you have good, competent health professionals, and that is something of a great relief, no?
Best wishes to C. for no recurrences.
(I also forwarded your post to Tom Crandall; I figured he'd want to know.)

Russell, I'm so glad both of you made it home okay! I know that must have been terrifying. It is awful to feel helpless when a loved one is sick.
My prayers and best wishes are with you both.

Thanks, Howard*--we've been working our way through the list of surviving friends, sending out the basic story and updates, fielding calls from family. Maybe we should put up a website. (Though I draw the line at a Facebook post.)
* And everybody else, again.

Best wishes to both of you, and hoping that it'll be a one-off. It certainly does sound like from the initial EMT response on thru that you got good attention and care.

We're not really joking when we say that our location is perfect: a 10-minute walk to C's office on campus and a 5-minute drive to the biggest hospital in the area. At one point in the 911 call, the operator said, "The ambulance is on its way--you should hear the sirens soon." And I was already hearing them. But then, I hear just about every emergency, fire, and police siren, especially at night--we're less than a mile from the cop shop and the downtown fire station, with another a bit farther, across the river. On the other hand, we're also a 15-minute stagger from the downtown bar district, so on a warm night I can tell what time it is by the sound of drunks walking home.

I'm really glad to hear that Cezarija appears to be in good health. I read her book, and really liked her despite having never met her. It the gathering we had in Minneapolis, concert at Creek House year I met her and really liked her. She is a fine person, and I wish her the best. The same for you, Russell, you've both been through a lot and it's good to hear that you are both as relaxed as possible after this. Do hang in there, both of you.

Quite the nightmarish experience. Good to hear she is back to herself, sending good thoughts and prayers that this is a one-time misadventure.
