So I got one of those Lodge cast iron pots with a ceramic coating. I've never cooked with one of these before. Give me some suggestions if you've got a favorite dutch oven recipe. (No Marty I'm not talking about the one where you hold your wife under the covers while you pass gas.) For the maiden voyage I coated some chicken thighs in olive oil and seasoned them with Merquen which is a Chilean mixed spice blend with smoked pepper flakes. Then I sliced a layer of lime and lemons and lined the bottom of the pot with them. Then I took a bunch of baby gold potatoes and tossed them in the chicken browning juices with some more seasoning and put those in the pot on top of the citrus. Then the browned chicken thighs on top with some sliced sweet onions and lemons mixed in. Last step is pouring in about an inch of some chicken stock. Bake uncovered on 400 for about 45 minutes. It was pretty good and super easy.

I bought Diane one like that some years back. She seldom uses it but I use it constantly. I can't offer any recipes that are specifically for a Dutch oven but it's good for almost any stew or soup. I made chili in it last night.

A long time customer of Wendy's gave her a La Crueset Dutch oven. If you did any shopping you know that that is high cotton. We use it for anything you would cook in a cast iron pot. I love the thing

La Crueset Dutch oven. If you did any shopping you know that that is high cotton. Yeah I've see those go buy from time to time. Pretty much a $400 pot right? The Lodge was $89.00 out the door and was an impulse purchase at Western Building Center. Looking at reviews now there are some quality complaints. If this pot start breaking down I'll probably upgrade. I like cooking this way.

"Yeah I've see those guy buy from time to time. Pretty much a $400 pot right?"
I don't think so. That's what we have and I think I paid about $120 for it. Google suggests they're more like $160 now.
By the way, it's also ideal for pasta sauce.

We got a Le Creuset dutch oven as a wedding present and still use it all the time. That comes to less than $10 a year, and getting cheaper all the time.

Last July you said this: Well, damn, I'd actually forgotten that. The age of the oven still goes, though, because my mother had hers for a long time. (And, to be honest, it was Melva's mother who left ours simmering on the stove and forgot to turn it off.)

PS: The price depends on size. A nine-quart Le Creuset is about $400. I don't know the capacity of ours but it's certainly not nine quarts.

I use mine at least a couple times a week. My favorite recipe is this: Add three cans of and three more of Heat and stir. Serve with this

Over here, Aldi do well reviewed Le Creuset style casserole pots for a very small fraction of the price. Maybe US Aldi too?

Le Creuset and Staub are both spendy, but you buy them once, and your kids will be passing them on to their kids.

It works fine but needs more work to clean and the enamel won't last. We do more cooking with a few old cast iron pieces (not enameled) and our T-fal non stick pan.

I’ve got a medium sized (6.5? Qts) Le Creuset oval Dutch oven. Bought it in around 1990 when I first moved to Portland. Love it. Works fabulously. Also have a Staub grill pan. . Works good for steaks on the stovetop. A bit of a pain to clean because of the raised ridges, And we have a larger round enameled Dutch oven bought at Costco, might be tremotina, not sure. It works, but for some reason it doesn’t work quite as well as the Le Creuset. It gets used, but it’s not the first thing I reach for. I’d love to have the large Le creuset braiser and a larger round Dutch oven by Le Creuset, but money.

How the hell did I do that? Thanks Dave. I'll fix it. BTW: Kent is a award winning chef and his recipes are worth a look.
