Wish you could meet my nephew while you're there. I think you'd hit it off. Where is he, John? Except thereβs a hedge and probably a moat around the whole thing so nobody can get in or out.

Gosh, I would love to, John. But it's not accessible to us.

Been being... Right now in Swansea for our 2nd of 3 days, visiting with our stunningly amazing friends Carl & Vivienne. Tomorrow an early outing to hike the collection of waterfalls at Brecon Beacons the on to our overnight at Pyle, Wales. After that it's on to Cornwall by hired car (nifty Ford Fiesta) for 3 nights then by train to London for 3 days to tour some of the high points.

Our friends Carl & Vivienne. Carl is a Welshman who Loves his land. It's been a whirlwind. He also pastors a little gospel church where I preached. The congregation has tenderest, warmest love I've encountered. What an experience. They chipped in and booked us a night in a lovely quaint place in Porthcawl (no accommodations in Pyle) the Olivia House.

I'm not sure what your train travel dates are but if they are from the 18th to the 21st, it might be worth making sure that industrial action on the railways doesn't complicate things. Hopefully not. It's been a bit of a nuisance for me this weekend. www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/when-are-the-next-rmt-aslef-union-train-strikes-in-2022-transport-companies-london-overground-b1013399.htmlIt's been a bit warm for yomping in the Brecon Beacons!

Accomodations in the area seem quite reasonable.

Our booking is indeed the morning 18th. Cardiff to Paddington Sta. Your article was paywalled for me. I've been hearing of this and am concerned. Tickets are already bought. Suggestions? Brecon Beacons was fantastic. So glad we went. Weather was very nice.

18th not looking good at all. If you can travel on the 17th your tickets will be valid then. Try these links. inews.co.uk/news/rain-strike-dates-next-rail-strikes-planned-walkouts-august-1795553www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/301926.aspx has links to specific journey checking stuff. ETA - I expect there will be extra coaches available. The coaches are nice and comfortable and fairly quick. Nicer than the Greyhound buses I've been on.www.nationalexpress.com/en/help/timetables(Coach would probably be my preference unless the strikes are called off. At least you get a seat guaranteed which you might not on the train, things being as they are).
PS - The National Express (Coach) site notes that...
"The planned rail strikes on 18 & 20 August may affect your travel plans.
We expect our services to be busier than usual and recommend you book in advance and check your timings before you travel. Please allow plenty of time to arrive at the departure location for your journey.

And if you just happen to be passing through Bristol James would be happy to buy you dinner. Just being a cheeky bugger matey.

I've got good timing it seems π I might just extend our rental car for a day and drive to London. I'll pay a one-way fee so I'll check into that.

Had to extend the car rental and pay the one way fee to drop off in London. Relieved to be done with the car without incident.
Touring today: St Paul's, Tower of London, Thames cruise etc. Ensconced in the incredibly posh St James Court hotel. It's been a delightful trip.
