Yeah, me too. I’ve been watching and listening to Larry for more than fifty years.
(Taking time out for meals, of course, and personal hygiene.)

Yeah, me too. I’ve been watching and listening to Larry for more than fifty years. I think I played “Bitter Weeds” everyday NUMEROUS times per day after Lar died. My misery was so intense I thought I would become that woman Larry Sparks sang about in that song. I still miss Lar. I always will. But, I am glad things turned out very differently for me than that woman in the song. “There Stands a Rose” is another one of my favorites by Sparks.

Years ago the Catholic Church in Alexandria decided they needed a bigger facility and I don’t know what happened but it got way over budget and out of control.
We were asked to sing at the dedication. We did House Of Gold. Not sure anyone got it.
The Seldom Scene’s version is my favorite.
(The classic lineup. Starling, Duffy, Aldrich, Gray, and banjoist Ben Eldridge with a rare appearance on second guitar. All deceased now except for Ben and Tom Gray. Damn I loved that band.)

... I had orders for a tour to Nam in 1968 and they pulled the order 6 days before I was to leave and sent me to Germany. I never found out why they did that. So you see, over on the other side of the planet, there was this butterfly, flapping its wings just ever so slightly...

Somehow this is an honestly delightful thread.

I'll honor the ceasefire. But in fifty years, if anyone remembers this week, it won't be because of anything relating to the former president. It will be because of the passage of the misnamed but admirable Inflation Reduction Act. We're finally doing something about climate change. It isn't enough but you have to start somewhere and it's a hell of a good start. If you haven't read up on this, it's worth doing.

Sentiment appreciated Terry. I also think about food and cat videos and sailboat design*. Maybe I'll shuffle my thoughts around a bit.
*ETA - and as per the above, climate change policies. Good news there!

So far, looks like they got nothing. Doesn't seem surprising. Oh, by the way, the gloriously misnamed Inflation Reduction Act is all spending (duh, it's the only way it could get passed) that probably won't do anything for the "global warming" hoax. Just spending a bunch of money indescriminently for crappy technology that is unnecessary and can't compete with good old fossil fuels in any way. Yippee! And has anyone actually thought through how adding 87,000 IRS agents makes the agency as big as the US Marine Corps. Bend over, here comes more inflation!

Yeah, what dumb bill. Absolutely everything is wrong with it and there isn't one iota of anything good in it. The whole thing is utter nonsense. Right, Aqua?

Dinner tonight featured pork chops cooked according to a tried and true recipe. Heat an oven to 350. Sear the pork chops lightly in a hot skillet, then remove to a casserole. Then add a diced onion, two diced tomatoes and a tablespoon of chopped parsley to the skillet--no oil--and cook for a few minutes. Add a glass of dry white wine and cook for a few minutes more. Dump the mixture over the pork chops. Add a clove and a bay leaf. Cover, insert in oven and cook for an hour, more or less. They're never dry and the flavor is terrific.

That sounds good. I make a big pot of baked beans this afternoon. Soaked the beans earlier, then mixed up all the stuff (molasses, mustard, et al) in the Dutch oven, nestled in a ham hock, and let it all go in the dutch oven at 300 degrees for four hours. The kitchen still smells great and I've got some good beans to eat off of all next week.

That's good but I'm glad we don't bunk near each other.

As someone who's worked with the IRS for 26 years, increasing IRS spending is a welcome move.
