I never fully understand UK politics but she seems to have brought the country to the edge of economic meltdown with amazing speed. And inflation has hit 10 percent there.

I read some British pundit had a head of lettuce sitting out and was tracking whether she could outlast it before it wilted.
Sounds like the lettuce won.

I very much enjoy reading John Crace in The Guardian. Mr. Crace is the Guardian’s parliamentary sketch writer. Parliamentary sketch writing has been a tradition of British parliamentary life since the early 18th century and is often quite entertaining. Mr. Crace has been soundly skewering “Librium Liz” throughout her brief term in office.

And inflation has hit 10 percent there. Must be Biden’s fault. Mike

Well, now that Comrade Biden has instituted Communism in the U.S. by having the government take over the means of production, in this case energy production, by setting prices and a USSR style 5 year plan for production and limits on profits undermining free market economics, we'll be going down the same hill as Britain and Venezuela and all other Socialist/Communist dictatorships. Remember there is nothing at the economic bottom to trickle up. Capitalism is the only successful economics on the planet and most of you voted to kill it. Hope you're proud of yourselves. Glad I'll die soon and not have to live in the country you destroyed.
Of course, Comrade Biden's plan is unconstitutional and I can always hope all Democrats lose their elections next month and Republicans restore the constitution. The U.S. was built as a capitalist, free market, private ownership centered country and for 250 years everybody wanted to move here and get away from their governments. I liked it that way. Trump 2024, or at least someone with his understanding of economic policies.
I did hear one British commentator say that Truss lost because she gave in to the leftists and backed out of her small government low tax plan. So, the Brits had a chance.

As might be expected, I have no choice but to defer to the extraordinary depth and undeniable genius of Bruce's historical, economic and political understanding and knowledge.

The fact that those warning voices were vindicated so fully and so quickly should deal Brexitism a fatal blow. . . .
That should have an impact on populism itself. Truss and those who voted for her once sang hymns to the glory of “disruption”. They cast themselves as swashbuckling disruptors of the old order, a boast they’d been making since 2016. Which voters long for a disruptor now? Right, just as the long, loud parade of lies, cheats, and failures by Trump and his cronies has taught the MAGA crowd a lesson they'll never forget--not gonna vote for that kinda guy ever again, nosiree!

Once again, Russell missed the point. There were no lies, cheats or failures under Trump. THose were all lies you believed because your side made them up and you bought it. Incidentally, Bruce judges things by calculating his net worth the first of every month and it sucks since Biden stole the election. Well, really Clinton stole the election of Biden.

I think you should refund all the money that socialist program Medicare spent saving your life Bruce. I remember when Doug’s anti big government, anti socialist program rants prevailed here except he had a major hard on for the VA Hospitals and outpatient facilities. I spent a good hunk of my medical training in VA hospitals. We used to joke that the biggest argument against socialized medicine was a look at how the VA operated. It was turtles all the way down. It’s a big old goofy world.

You've obviously been quarantined for way to long and don't personally know any of the MAGA crowd. That's alright, we'll objectively see how right you are in a couple weeks.

If "personally knowing" includes long acquaintance with participants in an on-line group where opinions and arguments are freely aired, then I'd say I know of two quite emphatic such believers. Out in the meat world, I have a friend of four decades who buys into a lot of the MAGA stuff. Not counting just walking around with my ears open. Or reading comment threads on almost any news site. Then there's they guy who drives this around town-- But then, his primary category is "nut case" and if it wasn't Trumpism he'd be decorating his ride with some other iconography. (He used to be partial to the Confederate battle flag.)
