Out for ride this morning, afterwards over a late breakfast got a facetime from our daughter and talked to her daughter (grandie) for a bit. They moved to the states last winter, she's five, has just started kindergarten and is picking up more and more english. Showered and kicked back on the couch for a while. Picked up my road bike from the shop, new chain and cassette also shifter cables/casings, will try it out tomorrow. It dates to 2006, but the shop boss said it's doing fine. Wife cooked tonight, I guess you'd call it a kind of hot pot, included a couple small fugu each (those are the poisonous ones). Caught this at the port, my usual turnaround point.

Don't know why I'm up so early. I expect to be napping soon.
Had a very nice practice with "The Deputies" last night. Paul, the bass player, is so excellent and tasty in what he does. We played for 4 hours. "I've got blisters on my fingers !"

Rainy day. The predictions are calling for 2 inches. We need it so I hope so. Stay dry if you can.

Up and at em, or something, Need to run over to Freddies and get some groceries. Then some breakfast and after that I’ll replace the starter on the Camry. To do that I need to takeout the battery and air cleaner box to access the starter. The car is only 19 years old so what could go wrong? Fingers crossed.

Cloudy this morning but the rain has stopped. We have a gig in Cedar Rapids this afternoon so that will take up most of the day.

Much chillier here, winter is coming.
I gave up watching the Bears game last night because the Manning brothers (and Obama for way too long) were driving me crazy. Their commentary was like watching paint dry. Couldn't even raise their voices when a pass got intercepted. Lots of dry talk about formations, etc.

Good morning
38F-51F cloudy.
A little shop time but I'll need to do a few errands before nap time also.
Sold my first item on Reverb. A 1971 Les Paul Recording electronics harness. All the controls but no pickups. I'm mailing it to Belgium. To use it with standard pickup you would need to add a step down transformer, like the one in a passive DI box 10k/600 ohm. The harness has one at the output end 600/10k ohm.
I still have a old D'Armond acoustic pickup listed. I'll dig through the archive and find a few more items to list. My shop name is MNluthier. I set prices high and once I list something it goes through Reverb only so if you see something you want contact me here first. Reverb has rules and I will abide by them, but that doesn't mean I can't accept a low offer.

Winter is here. Got down to 45 on our patio. Luckily, we had switched over from A/C to furnace before going to bed, so it's 69.8 in the house. It would be OK for me at 68, but Mr. H gets cold. We'll be running by the post office to mail our ballots, then to Trader Joe's. Our usual Zoom social call for about 2 hours this afternoon. We'll wait until after that to do our walk. It will be warmer by then and we'll need the exercise. I will also squeeze in some work on our HOA's budget, since I'm on the Finance Committee. We thought we were done, but somebody on the Board wants more information before their meeting tomorrow. I'm a volunteer and am only willing to spend so much time on it. I sent a quick and dirty spreadsheet last night and will check today to see if it still makes sense.

Of course I should have corrected it to “DeArmond acoustic pickup.” Marty was probably thinking “D’Addario.” Got it.

Yikes, my phone lit up with a Shelter in place warning about 10 mins ago -- a 17-year-old homicide suspect is at large in my neighborhood, and the State Patrol chopper is doing circles above this area.
Later edit: SUSPECT IN CUSTODY. Whew.
Later, still -- looking very sad, the kid stabbed three people, apparently at home, one died at the scene, other two seriously injured. Two more were injured less seriously. Sounds like the guy just went ballistic on his family. The arrest was made just south of the fairgrounds, couple miles away, but the crime scene is less than a mile from my place.

Moist day again. Time to start my hunt for a replacement paralegal - mine is leaving at the end of the year. I keep telling myself that change is good, but I am having trouble believing it.

The couch that could not be given away went to the dump today along with a fair amount of additional stuff.
Always a cathartic experience but backing your trailer into a fairly tight space under the critical gaze of pros is stressful.

Today's mission was to renew Mary's drivers license and get the new one with real-ID. After all the problems she has had with her eyes these past 40 years I feared she fail the eye test and lose her license which would kill her emotionally anyway. I packed up everything I thought we'd nee for the Real-ID and went to the DMV office. We had our passports and voter registration cards and the deed to the house and an electric bill and a copy of the check I paid the realestate tax with last year, and a couple of 1099s from Social Security and some other stuff but it wasn't sufficient for the woman at the DMV. We were told that since we have passports we really don't need Read-IDs anyway. So we progresses to Mary's license and she managed to pass the eye test. Although my license is good 'til February I was told I could renew today as long as we were there and I tried but I failed the eye test. Explained that I was having Cataract treatment soon and they let me go. Then a supervisor came over and took another look at what we had and gave us the Real-IDs. Now I just have to get my eyes fixed enough to pass the test and they'll give me a license too.

Good afternoon. We're back from an overnighter in Flagstaff. We were too late to see the many aspen turning. Over 90 percent of the trees were bare. There were a few stragglers with color. It was chilly. Yesterday afternoon in the peaks it was about 44 with just enough wind to make it unpleasant to be hiking. This morning it was 23 but calm and not bad. Despite everything we had a good time but we're glad to be back in a warmer climate.

I'm quite a way from Bill's place. There was probably Meth involved.

It's that time of autumn when the oak trees say to the maples, "Nice show boys, but let us show you how it looks when the adults take the brush and palette. You guys got the bright colors. We got soul."
