Me too. They were uncomfortable.

I tried some barefoot running shoes once. Spent $100 on a pair. I was sold on the concept of running naturally. . . . , they were awful. Low heel. No heel support. Flexible bottoms. I hated them. Now I'm back to cushy bottom shoes with "bounce."

I never went with the toe shoes. But I was tempted. I think Howard had a pair.

“But no plastic is absorbent”
Wrong. You know those high performance moisture wicking clothes the outdoor stores sell? Guess what they are made out of.

If it weren't for heavy wool socks, I would only be able to wear my sandals three weeks out of the year.

After a long day in the woods shooting animals, I do like to come home, take a long, hot shower, slip into my pink Crocs, open a box of chocolates, pop the cork on a gallon of rose, and have a long, intimate conversation with my cat. Paul, you know I appreciate your sensitive side, but the only problem I see is the oversize 2-liter beer mug you use for your rose. All the high-tone ladies I know use a standard pint glass, and get subtle refills as required. Granted, you're in Nordakota so some leeway must be granted, but I still think it's something you might want to consider.

Melva is considering a pair of crocs for camping trips when you just need to slip something onto your feet. They would take the place of flip flops. We'll see.

I never went with the toe shoes. But I was tempted. I think Howard had a pair. I can't picture Howard in those. Hope I'm not overstepping any bounds if I say that Todd has a pair in red, though. But we're all friends here, right?

I'm with you on this, David Now as to garters, I do have a pair. I use them quite a bit, especially on days where I worry about my socks sagging during the course of the afternoon. I have never thought about hiding them when friends come over. Everyone else uses them, right? I don't know if that says more about me or more about garters.

...Hope I'm not overstepping any bounds if I say that Todd has a pair in red, though. But we're all friends here, right? Say, while you were on the pizza run, Todd did his Swan Lake routine for us. If I hadn't seen it, I never would have believed it. Todd is damn good! I dearly would have wished for his tutu to have offered more coverage, but the dude has the moves!

I was recently looking for the most comfortable shoe I could find for walking many miles on the marble paving of Lisbon. I wondered what long distance race walkers wore and went to some specialist sports shoe shops to ask. Foot size and width and arch height vary a lot from person to person. The shoes I tried varied a lot in fit and comfort. Eventually I bought some suitable Brooks Ghost 14 shoes, they are very comfy. Comfier and lighter than my Skechers. Half price(ish) to clear too. Yay! marathonhandbook.com/brooks-ghost-14-review/I might wear Crocs to paddle if I found a pair discarded on a pebbly beach and nobody could see me.

I have never had crocs, they don’t look comfortable to me. I do have an old pair of birkenstocks that I wear around the house, with warm socks in the winter. They are in advanced state of crumbling, but still are so comfortable, and provide such good support, I keep them.

on the topic of shoes...
Fifteen years or so ago, I began to experience intermittent plantar fasciitis. Anyway, at that point, I became shoe fiend, (not that I wasn't before) and began, trying one brand after another, buying three pairs at once to compare, as well as various "custom" orthopaedic things (I never could tolerate and never helped). I was flush, I bought a lot of shoes. Money didn't matter, my feet did.
All the shoes I tried were great shoes, (we are in the Golden Age of shoes), but at some point, in some form and to some degree, plantar fasciitis (sore feet) returned.
On the basis of a couple strong recommendations, I bit the bullet and tried a pair of Hoka One Ones (Cliftons) even though I thought they were probably the ugliest shoe on the market. And they were...
HEAVENLY
I felt like I was walking on air. I would spontaneously burst into song while on a walk, singing "I Love My Hokas, Oh yes I do, I love my Hokas, what a great shoe." They felt so good, I bought a pair of their hikers as well (much less ugly), and they were great as well. I have worn nothing but Hokas for the last 10 years or so, and have not had a single day or hour of sore feet since. I feel like, somehow, Hoka sent some elves over to take measurements of my feet while I slept and then handcrafted the shoes just for me.
Cushioning and support. Just perfect.
(note, I do not run. I walk. But, some Casper walks are four or five miles. And while subbing, I could be on my feet all day.)

Me Darlin Wife dragged me to a Clark shoe dealer and made me try on a few pairs. I now wear Clarks and have never regretted it.
