May is on its way out. Time, slow down just a little. You’re moving too fast. Hazy, cloudy outside but no rain is forecast for anytime soon. We need it. Have pleasant days, y’all.

Beautiful late spring weather here. We will leave for church in a few minutes, then I don't know for sure what I'll do for the rest of the day.
Y'all be good.

Gorgeous day in Brooklyn. Sadly, I have to be in the office tomorrow. Retail never sleeps. But I will enjoy today, and we have been invited to an evening barbecue tomorrow, so perhaps this holiday weekend can be salvaged.
It's May 28.

Holiday Amazonning for the next two days.
I had a plumber come in and fix a few leaky faucets. As he was leaving, he saw a guitar case on the floor and said, "I gotta ask, what's the guitar?" It led to my showing him my guitars and telling him the stories behind each one. He showed me (on his phone) his recently acquired PRS quilted maple b/s. I think I found a plumber for life.
As I was showing him my guitars, I came across a stack of songbooks. I got them out this morning and played through them some and then decided I wasn't in the mood to learn a new song, but not before seeing that "I'm Not Saying" was played in dropD. I never realized that.

Good morning. I'm on my second cup of coffee, still trying to wake up. There'll be church this morning. The choir will make its last appearance until autumn. My wife's in the choir so I'll be there.
We'll have 60s-90s all week with a couple of days where the high temperature dips into the 80s. I'll take it.
I'm still recovering a little from my recent seizure but I'm mostly there. Keep on the sunny side.

Up coffeed and failed at Wordle. Oh well, you win some you lose some. Speaking of losing some, yesterdays trip to the vintage guitar store was pretty much a bust. Not the seeing David part, that was great as usual, but when we got to the store they were closed, wouldn’t be opening up for an hour or so, so we went off for a late breakfast. Back at the guitar store the owner showed up, and unlocked the like 46 bike ulocks he had, and let us in. The place was so crowded with guitars, amps and stuff there was barely room to stand. The owner said his business model was virtually entirely internet sales. If we wanted to check out a specific guitar we could make an appointment, he would then make sure the guitar was there. A lot of his stuff was in storage. We did get to play an interesting Yamaki, which I’ve never heard of but sounded great and played well. Nice looking straight grained Indian rosewood back and sides, but the finish was hazy and so the price would reflect that. Interesting to hear his take on the higher quality of woods Japan could get in the 70’s and 80’s due to different laws, and that Europe has discovered the old Japanese guitars but they are pretty much sleepers here in America. So, we didn’t get to play a bunch of guitars, and the Yairi I was interested in was in storage.
Then we went over to see David’s friend and my old Chiropractor who is in assisted living with Parkinson’s. He used to play guitar with David and we had a little sing along for about an hour. I think it left our friend in good spirits and some of the other residents seemed to enjoy it too. Have I mentioned David is very good dude? He is. I still owe him his birthday beer.
Today, we are off with friends to Terra Vina, picking up a case of futures we ordered last year, and tasting next years futures to see if we want any of those.
Mike

We went to a two man Glen Campbell tribute show last night. The performers were very good musicians but bad sound kind of ruined it. The second guitarist was a seasoned pro session player but all the cool stuff he played was completely drowned out by the singer’s painfully loud rhythm on an Ovation type guitar eq’d with the abrasive slider maxed out. The opening act was a family band of kids where I saw a first. When a song modulated one of the kids would quickly grab the rhythm guitarist’s capo and slide it up to the proper fret. Not quite seamlessly .

A racing fan's dream day. The Monaco Grand Prix was very exciting and crash-free. I won't say who won, as it's being replayed later today for those who aren't early birds.
The Indy 500 will start in about an hour. The front row features the youngest and fastest drivers in Indy history. Second row has one previous winner, third row has ALL THREE as previous winners and the fourth row has two more, so lots of experience and talent at the front.
Speeds this year are crazy -- in qualifying, the faster folks were ENTERING corners, flat out, at 240-plus mph.
Weather looks really good, with no chance of rain, light winds, nice cloud cover and moderate temps.
Go, Honda cars! Boo, Chevies!

"Up coffeed and failed at Wordle."
I can't remember whether you play in hard mode but you'll go bust much less often if you do.

Home project day. My wife has spring cleaning fever and seems to want me involved. I have a little fence project that might make me unavailable.
I had a nice visit with Mike yesterday and learned that he has a very good singing voice. Our visit with my old friend did put a smile on his face. Thanks again Mike for going with me. Very gracious of you.
Yes, the guitar shop that we visited was unique. We showed up as the owner arrived and waited about 10 minutes for him to unlock many, many locks to gain access. Though there were 50 or more acoustics hanging on the walls, they were all Japanese: Yamaha, Conn, Takamine, Alvarez, etc. The owner seemed especially knowledgeable about the history of Alverez, Yairi, Yamaki, Morris, and others. The visit reminded me that my first good acoustic was a Yamaki D type. It was nice to see a brick and mortar music store.

So, we didn’t get to play a bunch of guitars, and the Yairi I was interested in was in storage. My first job as a apprentice luthier was for one of the two Yamaki distributors for the US. One was Coast-Bruno out west and the other Meloway in Minneapolis. I set up every guitar before being shipped out. The pay was crap, barely livable, but I did get a Yamaki 130 that had a flaw, the back was blushed. Much later I learned that quite often you could get rid of that blush by giving it a good hard polishing. The blush is moisture stuck under the poly finish and wood, and polishing on a buffing wheel heats it up and drives it back into the wood. Yamaki made a darn good guitar, probably Yairi. Meloway marked their guitars with a white inspection label just inside the soundhole. So you may just find one with a MRR sign off on that label. This one was signed by Miles, can't remember his last name. There is also labels with a Chuck Orr signature.

Good afternoon.
79F sunny, perfect day.
Breakfast and grocery shopping done and now having a sit-down, not sure if I should work or nap. Zaria finally got the lawn mowed. It was 12" high and just about back to the natural prairie state so I could charge people to see it.
Got my new vest, black leather. Much heavier than my old dress vest and not as many pockets but it doesn't pick up cat hair and is not frayed at the edges. The sides are laced to provide some beer belly adjustment and the tied ends hung out at the bottom. I reverse laced it and pulled the sides tight, I don't have a belly problem, and hid the ends inside. Now I just have to get used to it.

Home from church and grocery shopping. While in church, thankfully with phones muted, Mr. H got 4 texts from our friend's wife. Also got one last night. Friend didn't stay long in the skilled nursing facility. He's back in the hospital with pneumonia, a fever, and now a collapsed lung. He's a very strong guy for 85, but still 85. She had to leave Mass this morning when she got called.
Plans for today include a steak that we will share and a bottle of Cabernet. Tomorrow will be burgers and potato salad. No large gathering, just the two of us.

Well, the Indy 500 was exciting as all get out and had a crazy finish. Long-deserving Josef Newgarden of Nashville won it, with second place going to last year's winner, Marcus Ericsson, who as a Swede was characteristically sour and dour in his postrace comments.
A fair number of crashes, but no injuries. The scariest moment came when Kyle Kirkwood of Andretti Racing was the victim of an accident in front of him, was flipped onto his top at speed, and in the process lost a rear tire/wheel that bounced over the high grandstand fence -- which almost never happens -- and crashed into a parked spectator's car, thankfully injuring no one.

In 1987 a tire killed a fan in the top row. It came off one car and was punted into the stands by another car.
