It's 88 degrees, headed for about 115. It's okay for a walk now but by late morning it'll be time to stay inside. My son and I will assemble a set of standing shelves. Next week we leave for Flagstaff where they're expecting 50s-80s. Have a good day. Wordle 756 X/6 ⬜⬜⬜🟨🟩 🟨🟨⬜⬜🟩 ⬜🟩🟩⬜🟩 ⬜🟩🟩⬜🟩 ⬜🟩🟩⬜🟩 ⬜🟩🟩⬜🟩

It's 86 on our patio and it's supposed to hit 110 today. Dew point and humidity are still in the monsoony range, but the forecasters aren't even pretending that it could rain today. Mr. H and I will do our walk, have waffles, and head to the supermarket for gas, prescriptions, and groceries. (He also intends to ask about the new RSV vaccine, but I'm convinced that it's FDA approved but not available yet.) Then we're in for the day. Yesterday we took our 26 year old truck for its emissions test. Passed by huge margins, as usual. The whole thing is to show that AZ is doing something about air pollution. Only required in Maricopa County (Phoenix) and Pima County (Tucson).

Good morning
60F-81F partly sunny.
DaWife is at the airport picking up Ayana right now and they will go to breakfast before continuing north to Fifty Lakes. Don't know if Kai and Zar are even up yet but once they are they will also head north.
I shall have a quiet week doing what I want when I feel like it.

Farmer's market this morning, I'm hoping from sweetcorn and tomatoes.
Music by Todd this afternoon at 42 degrees North.
No, the tomatoes are not to throw at him.

Went to a new tapas bar in the neighborhood that is getting rave reviews and write-ups. It was primarily Catalan-style tapas, with a good, extensive wine list. The place was really jumping at five o'clock—lots of younger people, in their late 20s, early 30s. I jumped off the wagon and had a very refreshing, nicely balanced gin/tonic drink called The Herbalist, which contained Mahòn gin, licor de hierbas, Indian tonic, and a large sprig of rosemary.
The tapas were hit and miss—some were delicious, some not so much, The Spanish tortilla was more like a potato omelette; it should be thicker and drier. Pricey, and we will probably not return anytime soon. One last thought: the olive oil they serve with the warm country bread is the best I have ever had! Fruit-forward, light, and doesn't burn your throat.
Here is a sampling:
Shown: remains of esqueixada: salt cod with fennel, onion, blood orange; croquetas de jamón y queso (Iberian ham and manchego); pulpo: grilled octopus; The Herbalist; tortilla Español.
Not pictured: txistorra, spiced pork sausage (disappointingly like Vienna sausage with a kick). Should be cooked over an open fire or grill. Wasn't.

Another lovely day on the west coast. Going away tomorrow, will be driving up to the tip of Vancouver Island, then taking a 7 hour ferry ride to Bella Coola, on the central coast. Never been there before, looking forward to it. We’ll then drive up what’s called the Freedom Road, an absolutely hairy hill built into the mountains, up to the Chilcotin plateau, then along another road I’ve never seen, highway 20. Looking forward to it. We’ll end with a couple of nights in Whistler. Hoping we don’t run into any forest fires, because they are burning, and more are coming every day.

Treated myself to steak and eggs at Holman's Table this morning, with hash browns, toast, Hollandaise, etc. The hanger steak, with beef from MN producer Revier Cattle Co., was outstanding and about two inches thick. Not a cheap meal, but I brought half of it home, so good eatin' later. Air ops were pretty limited -- saw three bizjet landings and two takeoffs. I wudda been on the patio, but the air quality here is still nasty. Thanks a lot, Canuckistan!

Use rutabagas, they hurt a lot more and nobody wants them anyway, don't hit the guitar it's not its fault.

Not a big fan of Tapas, but I am a fan of good olive oils. I always recommend going to one of the specialty shops and trying several. Spanish oils and Greek oils are, in fact, generally better than most because they rarely mix them with other oils. Italy manages to export more oil than they are capable of producing somehow. Once you find something you like at the specialty store, it will guide you to what to look for in regular stores. Generally, the Italian grocers will have many of them, Italians like good oil.

No thanks, I have an aversion to mountain roads without guardrails. Yeah, it’s a wicked one. Lots of videos on Youtube people have taken going down it. A friend who used to be a long haul trucker went down it in a semi, he said it wasn’t a good experience. But, we’re going up, so not quite so bad. Just had the Outlander checked over, and the cooling system was flushed last year, so shouldn’t be a problem.

Thanks a lot, Canuckistan! Canadian Bacon (starring John Candy) has been on quite a few times this weekend already. It is fun absurdist comedy. Love all the news reports designed too gin up hatred of Canadians. Unfortunately, it looks a little too much like actual news reports these days.

At Kafe 421 in Dinkytown every evening meal started with crusty bread and a dish of olive oil. Many a time when I came in just for a drink the wait staff would put bread and oil out for me. I could make a meal of just that.

I could make a meal of just that. Man, I miss those days and the graciousness of Georgia and her daughter Tig, the whole staff, really. We regulars seemed to always get a little extra treat, gratis. Playing gigs there was delightful -- you sat up on what at one time was a storefront display case, so 180-degree views of the bustling Dinkytown sidewalk scene. Plus, being a few feet off the floor made for good acoustics and sightlines of the diners. Tips were ample, and the between set meals, preordered and ready at a prearranged time, were fabulous.
