Something that occurs to me, as I read these posts and ponder TK's situation, is how large a factor this forum can play in our lives. In this thread alone, I have learned that many beloved forumites share this malady, I've learned much more about it, and how they have dealt with it.
My larger point is that this place provides incredible emotional support to those in need of it, beyond giving all of us a little joy each and every day.
We all need that.

I would be devastated. I hope you can overcome it. I hope you can learn to live with it without giving up what brings you joy. So many have, and I have to believe there's hope in that.
The waiting is the hardest part Every day you get one more yard You take it on faith, you take it to the heart The waiting is the hardest part Yeah, the waiting is the hardest part

I'm really sorry to hear this, Terry. You're a social person and you are willing to adapt. Somehow you'll get something figured out even the solution is way out there on the unorthodox branch of things. How you communicate isn't important, that you communicate is. There is no doubt in my mind that you'll figure something out. Hopefully we can talk sooner than later. I really enjoyed our conversation last April.

Terry, sorry to hear that. Like others here, I've got a mild case that I can usually ignore. I hope yours moves to that category soon.
Last year in Illinois I was pleasantly surprised to discover that for at least that day it was locusts and not my ears because Melva could hear it, too.

I am a religious person and will be praying for you. Prayer is appropriate here because prayer deals with matters of the soul, and guitar playing and guitar building is part of your very soul.

Terry
You’re a social person. Me also. It’s a little problem with ageism. It’s pretty simple. It’s difficult, but you’ll figure it out.
I've been tinnitus for 15 years. It's very humming bees or constant whine in airplane .... 60 decibel
I was working in my 20s - sawmill, logging, construction (I didn't have secure headphones) - 120 dBA
I do talk to people that "I have a hearing problem it's only tinnitus" - I actually can hear well. Sometimes I have a good conversation please
There's a few things that I do to adjust my life Read Lips My Blinders (earbuds) ie: horse Listen Music and write my writing Asleep with Indian music ie. Ali Akbar Khan Filter conversations in cafe - make sure there's only one or two people. More.....
You can call me - Terry bobmckennee @ yahoo dot com

Terry, I've been away for a few days and am just now seeing your news. I can't imagine what it must be like. I spent time this morning praying for you. I hope your tinnitus subsides soon. I'm in your corner.
We all are.

My wife has just ordered a set of over the ear hearing aids for me, without consulting me as I am not particularly bothered by my poor hearing, and I am concerned with how much they distort music. We’ll be seeing soon how comfortable I am with them. I will report in detail once I am used to them. I’m told it takes at least 3 weeks, and music never gets quite right.

I agree that it takes at least 3 weeks, but during those 3 weeks, you need to use them most of the day. I also agree that music is never quite right. But then, if you, like me, have "moderate" deficiencies in particular frequencies, music without your hearing aids is not quite right either. I hope you have a way to adjust to compensate for your particular frequency hearing deficits. I understand that hearing aids are now being sold over-the-counter. Merely magnifying all frequencies is not a good solution to most hearing deficiencies.

Just saw this, Terry, I’ve been away as well. I’m another one of those with mild Tinnitus. It’s actually kind of loud, but it’s a steady hiss, so I don’t notice it most of the time, it’s like permanent white noise. Not religious, but here’s hoping. I’ve been confronted with the specter of not being able to play this last little while as well, and it sucks.

Tinnitus? I got that. Hearing aides? I got that. Sore thumb joints that interfere with playing and opening jars and stuff? I got that too.
I just keep trying to muddle on in spite of the deficits. What else can you do?

Just got back from lunch with 8 other old farts and one not quite so old. No doubt about it, old age is an adventure.
