Up from a long nap and not feeling too bad. Zaria's 16th and she and her sister will be here shortly to make us dinner. Grandma made Zar her Birthday dinner last might, Reuben sammies.
My crazy cats spent the day outside, by choice. They were urged to come in several times today but no they wanted their spots under the front garden shrubs laying there like two dead kitties until called in for dinner. I put a large bowl of water out for them this morning knowing they would probably refuse to come inside out of the heat and terrible humidity. I think they are playing Jungle Kitty and will stay out until well after dark. It's like wearing a fur coat in a sauna.

One of ours came in (from the screened-in porch) for a snack and wanted to go right back out. Her roommate, though, apparently decided that it's cooler inside the house--but then, he has a real Minnesota-spec coat and will loll around in weather that would have me shivering.

Wow, this is a sweaty day! We're up to 98 degrees and still climbing 100 degrees, and the dewpoint is 77. Very little breeze. Not a good day to be a roofer. I hear Iowa is even worse, and their state fair is up and running, right? My strategy for the day is working, so far. I ran the central air when I first got up, got the house temp down to about 77, then set the 'stat at 83 and have run the furnace fan periodically to mix warm upstairs air with cool basement air. The interior temp is up to 80, but it's comfortable because the door is nailed shut and no outside humidity has infiltrated. I ain't goin' nowhere! I gotta check my glasses, or at least put them on. I read that as "It's a bad day to be a hoofer." Fred and Ginger, watch out!
