If a Kia/Hyundai has a push button start (no keyed ignition), it has the same theft protection as any other car. If it has a keyed ignition there is a free fix (plus a window sticker indicating the fix). I had mine fixed last winter. I was in and out in 15 minutes. Quicker than an oil change. The fix is available at every dealer, they get you right in, and it is free. Tell that to Marty and Cheri! Marty, Cheri, there is a free theft fix that was made available for applicable Kia and Hyundai vehicles in February, 2023. Dealers will install it no wait priority. Takes about 15 minutes.

Bill's uncalled for sarcasm aside, the above is useful information in a thread concerning used car purchases.
Pocketbook bottom line, Kelly Blue Book fair purchase price for a 2019 Kia Sportage with 60,000 miles is $18,000. Kelly Blue Book fair purchase price for a Honda CR-V is $26,000.
These two cars are essentially equal and both are recommended by Consumer Reports and other car guides. Yet you can get the Sportage for $8,000 less. Plus (in this example) it will have 40,000 miles of full warranty coverage remaining on its engine, transmission, and other drivetrain parts while the Honda will only have 6,000 miles of warranty coverage remaining.
Knowing that the theft issue affecting Kia/Hyundais with "keyed ignitions" systems has a free fix available, if it hasn't already been fixed, can be useful information if you are in the market. Knowing that Kia/Hyundais with push button starts (like the 'three row seating' Telluride) come with the ignition interlock system that is now industry standard can be useful information.
If you live in a part of the country that has issues with free-roaming gangs of kids smashing and grabbing without consequence, check with your insurance. If the Kia/Hyundai has the ignition fix, it should be covered at the same rate you will be gouged for with any equivalent car in a high crime area. But do check.
