The heavy responsibility of starting the daily has fallen upon me. It’s something I take quite seriously. It’s 44 degrees heading up to 57. Wearing a heart monitor is a pain in the ass, which is a long way from my heart. Breakfast is the most important meal of the early morning. Coffee is heaven sent. I listen to music on CDs, vinyl, via streaming, broadcast radio, and I hum a lot. Barb got Wordle in 2. That’s all I have. Now, start the posting frenzy.

40 degrees here, and I have a strong hankering for squash, specifically, buttercup squash. I'll Chek the farmers market this morning, they won't have any. West Music jam this afternoon, if I go there I can stop at Hy Vee on my way home, they usually have the good stuff.
The judge signed the paperwork last Wednesday evicting my squatting neighbor.

Dang ! What a difference a week makes !
Last Sunday I went to a grandson's football game in scorching 92 deg heat. We all had umbrellas to protect us from the scorching sun. My shoes were dark colored trail running shoes. I had to maneuver to a place where my shoes weren't in direct sun because my feet were baking.
Last night I went to a HS football game because another grand daughter is in the marching band. And I froze my ass off. We left after the half-time show. My whole body was shivering. Teeth chattering. I couldn't get warm when we got home. Eventually went to bed with full winter covers on and shivered for the first hour in the sack.
Yuck.

Yuck. You need lap warmers or as with my Simon & Riley, cat-alytic heaters.

Good morning
43F-53F partly cloudy.
Saturday shop and maybe some shopping before a late lunch with Hammond and the Radtke's. I might go see Pat Donahue tonight but that depends on how worn out I get doing all the other stuff.

Sunny and breezy, predicted to cloud over and rain again.
Quiet house full of sleeping females. Hanging out with the youngest female - 4 month old puppy - in the workshop and doing quiet workshop stuff.

This season's vegetables have been purchased and planted. We hope to have broccoli, 3 types of tomatoes, jalapeño pepper, Green Bell pepper, Red Bell pepper, and some kind of roasting pepper. Currently 77 but still going up to 100. Today may be the last day this year to touch 100. Maybe a new definition for the start of Arizona Fall.
My cataract surgery is all scheduled out for the end of the month. I'm getting a standard long focus lens in one eye, while the other will be tuned for reading plus having some astigmatism correction. They apparently don't have any with bluetooth connections to iPhone apps.

I hadn't heard of getting your vision corrected differently for one eye than for the other. Obviously it can be done. I think you'll find that cataract surgery isn't much of a much.

We've had hot weather well into October in the past, but that wasn't against a backdrop of worrisome worldwide weather. Now people wonder if what we're seeing is how it's going to be.

Sposed to get to 85 here. That’s a new record high if it makes it. I need to mow this am before it gets too hot. The grass has been neglected because of my knee and Nita’s thing. We are looking like the ner’ do wells of our block.
Speaking of Nita, she thinks she is feeling somewhat better, still has the cough, but no fever. Still isolating.

Today is Homecoming for the University of North Dakota. And my house is at the end of the parade route down University Ave, whereupon the parade, now officially over, takes a right on 23 Street and goes past the other side of my house as everyone heads back to the starting grounds. (and as I was at the end, it was almost like it was a private parade for me as the crowd was spread out along the beginning and middle)
So, Casper and I spent the morning in the corner of our yard and watched the parade. The marching band stopped right in front of us and played their final piece, then turned and marched past us. I knew a couple of the trombone players from various deals and I got some nice shout outs.
It was quite a parade with lots of floats and fun stuff. And, as the parade finished at my place and then took its turn for home at my place, Casper and I got lots and lots and lots of candy (as it was safe to whittle the surplus supplies down). Much of the candy was hand delivered as Casper is still quite the chick magnet. And there were lot's calls "I like your dog", "I like your garden", "Put your pants on".
A fun start to the day.
I love where I live!

I hadn't heard of getting your vision corrected differently for one eye than for the other. Obviously it can be done. I think you'll find that cataract surgery isn't much of a much. It's called mono vision apparently (I learned that from the surgeon). But I had Lasik surgery 20 years ago, and that was what I had done back then too so I wouldn't need reading glasses. So I have had my eyesight tuned that way for decades now. It has worked out well for me since I spent most of my working days staring at a computer screen. What's more of risk in this procedure is the astigmatism correction. Those lenses have to be precisely oriented in the eye. But, the lens can move during the healing process and reduce the effectiveness of the correction.

Thank you, LJ, for starting the daily thread. You are a person of sobriety and integrity.
I am currently running the laundry through a second cycle, because I ran the first one sans detergent, and once the machine starts, you can't stop it and open the door. Ah, apartment living with a basement laundry room.
Raining again in New York. Lazy Saturday otherwise. The Waffle House coffee mug I ordered for my daughter (who prompted me to steal one when I was in North Carolina the other day) just arrived via UPS and not only did it make her smile widely, but dad got a hug (a rare occurrence here)! She wanted it for the goofy factor.
Could be time for a second cup... enjoy your Saturday!

I do not understand the obsession with the Waffle House. Waffles are good, I get that, but are easily made at home. Add some bacon and eggs, you got a pretty nice breakfast, but easily done at home, what am I missing?

I think it has something to do with the brawls that occur around midnight when many of the patrons are stone drunk and looking for cheap eats. There is a lot of truth in the SNL farce video that LJ posted the other day, apparently. Even my host in North Carolina said that's when the "excitement" truly takes place. In my daughter's case, there's the mythology surrounding the sociological phenomenon and the fact that the chain has never made it this far north.
The waffle was good, and we don't own a waffle iron.

We own a waffle iron. I strongly recommend it. And Mike, you haven’t had a waffle until you have dodged a thrown chair while having one. Waffle House regulars can pick up and shield their plates and grab their coffee without spilling a drop as the chair flies over their head. And, I would love one of those cups!
