That's what real life inflation looks like. That's about $20 just twenty years ago. I've been thinking about it a lot lately. I'm giving my mailman $100 tip again this year. $20 buys exactly nothing these days. Dinner for two? Forget about it. Buy a candy bar and a coke at the gas station and it's $7. I'm making what would have been solid middle class income even ten years ago. Today it puts me near the top of the bottom class. If Keb wants to keep up with the very people who want to see him perform, I'm guessing that even $100 a seat doesn't cover it. Well, a lot of other acts are coming to the Dakota for a lot less money: Jesús Molina, Jan. 18 at Dakota in Mpls. $40-$45. dakotacooks.com. … Keb’ Mo’, Jan. 21 at Dakota. $105-$135. … Laura Fischer & the Grand Baton, Feb. 3 at Dakota. $45-$65. … MMEA All State Jazz Band with Scotty Barnhart, Feb. 16 at Dakota. $20-$25. … Jenni Muldaur & Teddy Thompson, March 20 at Dakota. $45-$50. … Nate Smith, May 4 at Dakota. $35-$40.
Aside from Teddy Thompson, who is nowhere near as big of a draw as his father, I only recognize one name on that list - so there’s only two artists/groups I’d even contemplate seeing from your selection. One is Teddy & Jenni, and the other is Keb’ Mo’. I have paid more, occasionally much more, for lesser-known artists, too. They gotta eat, and venues gotta venue. If I want artists to continue making music I need to support them the only way they make money. Listening to streaming does just about nothing for them, and it’s getting harder to justify physical media (CDs or vinyl).

It does not, but they'd be happy to sell you food. I know first hand. Took DaWife to see Acoustic Alchemy there, twas an expensive evening.

I confess that my eyebrows went up a bit at the Dakota/Keb ticket price, and Bill's list of other Dakota show tix confirms my impression that the Keb show is an outlier for non-arena-scale events. FWIW, our Folk Society tickets rarely go over $35, and that pricing is part of our grant-writing pitch: big-city acts at small-city prices. (Of course, the Dakota and other commercial venues don't get arts-board grants--the Dakota's profit margins are supported by food & drink sales.)
As for inflation--it's real, but it's also not evenly distributed across the whole spectrum of goods and services, and its impact is not felt equally across income/geographic segments, not all of which have recovered equally from the disorders of the last decade or so.
I have mentioned before that my freshman year (1962-63), I would cash a $5 check for weekend recreation money--play some pool, have a light meal, get a beer at Wanda's. The CPI Inflation Calculator reckons that my '62 five-spot is the equivalent of $50.50 in 2023 money--but I have my doubts about how precisely that maps onto my expenditures. Of course, back then a McDonalds burger was $.15 and a draft beer was $.25. (Can't remember the cost of a table time for pool, but it must have been modest or I wouldn't have been playing.) The next year, when I became a commuting student, I drove a $75 used Chevy, bought $.30 gas, and probably kept the same modest walking-around money in my wallet--maybe bumped to $10, since I would have to buy gas every week.

A chance of rain starting tonight and through Christmas, with a 100% chance on Friday. In the desert, that is a welcome forecast.
My new glasses were delivered a half hour ago. Ordered from Zenni, whose software didn't believe what I needed for the right eye until I confirmed. This is to compensate for my distorted retina. I think it will take a while for my brain to retrain itself to not rely on the left eye. I am assisting by looking at the computer screen and a book with just the right eye. While the brain won't be retrained before I have to leave for my appointment with the retinal specialist in just over an hour, I will be wearing the new glasses and we'll find out how I do on the eye chart.

Another cough filled night with wheezing sounds. I don't otherwise feel bad. I will sneak into the office this afternoon to get some quick paperwork sorted.
I have been trying Wordle this week and googled the best starting word. One was "salet." I had never heard of it. My old Collegiate Dictionary does not include the word but various internet searches define it as a bowl-shaped helmut extended in the back.
Worked well today, I solved Wordle in two - a first for me.

It's Tuesday in New York, and everywhere else, I guess, except maybe Australia, New Zealand, et al.
Check out Ron Wood's vintage Gibson arch top. This might be one of the worst concert videos I have ever seen. Director must have been on crack.
Hey, have a great day, friends.
True. But the song and vocals are wonderful.
